i have a 1985 gl1200 LTD that is overcharging. When I took the bike apart, i found that the regulator was cut out and hardwired in. Also, the part number that is called for is a 574-12, which has more than one plug, and the part that was on the bike is a 541-12, which has a straight 8 wire plug even though it was cut off, which is for a 1000 interceptor among other bikes.The problem I have is that i can hard wire the proper regulator but I am not sure if the wires will match up the same way they are wired now, since there are a couple of wires that have two wires going into one and then connecting to the regulator. When I look in my Clymers wiring diagram, it shows 8 wires going into the plug on all of the diagrams, even th LTD.Any suggestions.
