2004 gl1800 spedo display

Only thought I have is that some wiring loom comes in contact with the forks, causing things to be jostled and it then starts working.

My speedo is a "gauge" as is the tack on my 2004. Are you referring to the ceremony display? It does sound like @GLblinded is pointing in the right direction. UNLESS you're saying the speedometer is not working.
