Dear 1500 riders : I'm looking for the bolt size that secures the passenger seat grab rails to the bike. The 1800 uses this size " M8 x 1.25 x 120mm Socket Head Cap Screw ". Can you direct us to size of the 1500 ? The reason for this question is a rider wants to buy a passenger cup holder from Kuryakyn that does not list the holder for the 1500.

The " length " of the bolt specs I gave is the one that comes with the cup holder package as it needs to be longer to accommodate the offset and spacer of the bracket. So it looks like it is the same bolt as far as diameter and thread size. Am I seeing this correctly ?

Well, yes, the bolt diameter and thread pitch are correct.
The standard length is 50mm. Mine is 90 because of the added backrest.

the bolt length shouldn't be a deal breaker but might need to be replaced.
It seems that whatever the cupholder adds to the length + 50mm would be what you need. If he has a backrest, it would need to be added as well.

If you do get hung up on the length, you should be able to find an automotive fasteners or some such place to get one for a couple bucks.

snip from ronayers.com

SKU: 1030349
Mfg. Part Number: 90010-MW5-000
1997 Honda GL1500SE SEAT BOLT, SOCKET (8X50)
Is this the same size for the 89 1500 as the new backrest I have bought needs longer bolts to allow the grab handles to be fitted as well

The size is the same, but the part number is different. The 1988-1990 uses part # 96700-08050-17.
