Hi Kim - I believe that hose is part of the emissions package that's required here in California. It prevents gas fumes for escaping into the air by rerouting them back into the air cleaner box. I know that people do disconnect some of the California emissions stuff but I don't really know the consequences of doing that, other than the fact that's it's illegal to disconnect it here in California. You might try asking in the forum and get opinions from some of the experts here!

HI Alan. I have a 1994 GL1500 with a California Friendship III sidecar. You mentioned in a thread about a lost gas cap on 6/2/18 about a breather hose attached to the cap. "I guess that's the ONLY advantage of having a California bike - the gas cap is connected to the bike by that breather hose, so you've got to work really hard to lose the gas cap!" I have that hose on my bike. Its a pain to deal with every time I get gas. Is it necessary to keep it on there? I live in PA. When we just changed out the alternator it didn't seem to be connected to anything under the bike. I bought the bike new in 1995 from a dealer in PA. Thank you. Kim
