Welcome to you from Mississippi. Don't fret the brake recall, just make sure it was done. If it sings to you it'll be the one. That many miles is no worry, it's just getting broke in.
Thanks! But... that's not helping me with an excuse not to buy (grins). Seriously, thanks for the reply. It's probably a great opportunity for me and not too much money as I learn to ride a big bike again.
24,000 miles ? I'll have 80,000 miles on my 08 . Never a valve , etc....... But....... is it Pearl White ? Therin lies the issue. I can only attest to Pearl White.
in 2008 I bought a ten year old goldwing........ never regretted it, it too was my getting back into riding bike.... spent what you are looking at ...had the same miles as what you are looking at..... never regretted it.
The only difference.... I bought a 1500 and you are looking at a 1800..... they are even more bullet proof.
The brake recall was not a big deal.....they had to replace a master cylinder and do a full fluid flush.
no cost to the owner..... it was on all 1800s.... even my 2013 had the same recall
IF it looks good and looks like it has been taken care of...... I wouldn't be scared of it.
check dates on tires....... best if they are 5years or less old
Don't be intimidated. The Goldwing is one of the easiest bikes to ride. Just do what you know about riding a motorcycle and it will come. Go slow and a little parking lot practice will do wonders..... Jim
Your wife doesn't want you to buy a motorcycle............Good enough reason...........You can edit to suit your needs......Mom, Dad, next door neighbor, significant other, boyfriend, priest, & kids will all substitute.
Or you could just buy it, ride it, and have a grand time.
to be honest..... I felt the same way about getting my dream bike, the Goldwing, so I actually spent about a year on a 750 Vulcan,,,, kind of a mistake..... but at the time.....my wife said I could get a bike.... and that was the one that was quick at hand that I had the cash for....spent the next year looking for the wing that sang to me.
I had jumped on my brothers wing after not being on a bike at all for like 5 years..... took about a 4 mile ride....came back and gave everyone at my parents rides on it the rest of the day.
They are an easy ride.......once you break 10 mph...... they handle as well as any and easier than a Harley or other big V-Twin...... the wing has a much lower center of gravity and much harder to stall out
Far too many would be Wingers get befuddled by the size and heft of the GL bikes. They are not ungainly behemoths trust me. I've been riding GLs since 1984 and have never had a situation where I could not handle either the weight or the handling traits. Does take some practice getting used to though, like any other big bike. Take the time to get to know her and you'll be a happy camper.
Welcome to the forum from metro Detroit. Back in 2015 I bought a 1 year old 1800 with 12,000 miles, best purchase. Not even broken in, today it has almost 25K. Go for it!
I purchased a used 2005 GL1800 a few month ago. I'm 68 years old, coming off of a Kawasaki Concours 1400. I do have a large regret. It is that I didn't buy this Goldwing ten years earlier.
Just be careful if it is RED. They are the fast ones. The others are ok and you will be fine. But RED and you may lose control.
I would start out on a white one and after a few years maybe move up to the red one.
I don't believe you need anyone to talk you out of it.....you have already made up your mind....and you will find, it will be the best purchase you have made in a long, long time. Be Grateful.
I have an '06 Premium Audio that I bought new. Now has 121,000 miles and still runs like new. The only thing that I would change is to get ABS, but you have to get an over-priced GPS to get to that level, and on a new one wasn't worth it to me at the time. Wife and I tour on it a lot now that I'm retired.
9k is a bit high depending on what condition it is in I see them going for 6 to 8k. Brake recall is no big deal in fact it's a non issue. Personally I could care less about years as in general 01 to 10 are essentially all the same with some cosmetic and dash layout differences. Anything under 100k on a wing is low normal. Fact is if you don't mention the year 99% of the public won't be able to tell what year it is unless they decode the VIN.
Last year I bought a 03 07 and 05. I sold my 01 and to be honest riding each one of these was like riding just one as they all rode exactly the same. I kept the 03 for myself and sold the other two. This what I call a move to a "new" bike a jump of two years
For the record the 03 was the highest mileage bike of the three at 47k and I paid $3400 for it. I did have to replace the mirrors though.
Point is there are deals out there but you have to dig for them. And I am seeing more and more bikes for sale, this is probably a good trend for the buyers but looking bad for sellers.
Goldwings are pretty much bullet proof. I had the brake recall done on my "12". Take it easy at first. Practice in a parking lot. Even a motorcycle safety course could help. Enjoy the forum and ride safe.
