New from Waco, TX.

Hello. My name is Shelby. I just picked up my first goldwing and my first motorcycle. I'm new to motorcycles, but have been around cars and trucks my entire life.
I just picked up this 1999 1500 Aspencade(I have yet to learn what that last one means) with about 150k miles on it. It's got some shade tree mechanic hijinks going on, but she runs and drives as is. I'm excited to learn more about these bikes while I play with this one, and learning to ride altogether.

Welcome from southeast Pennsylvania!

Since you didn't say you had any prior motorcycle riding experience - like riding a buddy's or relative's motorcycle, the first place I would go is to a basic riding course. They provide the motorcycle (usually a 250cc) and start you off with riding "theory" and then for some motorcycle riding "practical" experience.

Like said - the 1500 is a lot of bike for a first time. I have seen it said the 1500 was the biggest Gold Wing produced. I know it is larger than my 1800.

That said you can enjoy your 1500, just take your time, find a friend (might find some on here that are close to you) who has a motorcycle and it doesn't have to be a Gold Wing, and an empty parking lot to practice starting out/stopping/braking (including hard braking) and turns right and left, and how to pick up the Wing. :Hint: look where you want to GO not DOWN.

Yeah, I 100% plan on attending a safety course.
I know it's a lot for a first, but it just kinda fell in my lap.
I have a bit of a problem. I can't seem to stop trading around, so I don't know how long I'll even have it, but I'm happy for now.

Welcome Shelby. The crew has already given you some tips that are sound so go forth and enjoy.

If you have issues (you mentioned some "hi-jinks") post a thread in the general section with some more specific details and our resident gurus will help guide you though the trouble shooting process.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Yeah, I believe bubba had this bike at one point. Unless I'm mistaken and honda actually used wood screws to put plywood in the trunk to cover up holes in the floor.

That was the trunk reinforcement option!

BTW, Aspencade was the lower level bike, SE was the top of the line.
