Florida Gold Wing Rider

I just bought a new to me 2003 Gold Wing with about 20,000 miles on it. I've been going through it and making sure all the fluids, plugs, filter, etc. are up to date. Mounted Bridgestone tires. And I have just one question.

Are there any Florida riders out there who run 20/50 oil? I see 10/40 is recommended in the manual but it gets pretty warm here in the summer.

Close, I am a Texas rider. I use the 10/40

Right now at 4:24pm Central Time it is 100 F with a feels like Temp of 112 F

Summer has officially started in Texas, cool summer up to this point, this is our first 100 degree day,
Time of year my bike sets, unless early morning erand. May not be really riden until September.

Amsoil

I think I'm going to try Amsoil 10W40. That seems to get good reviews. And it should for the price.

I wonder if Amsoil also has a good final drive oil.

Welcome to the GWOF.
I use 10-40 in my 1500, but I do live in the N.W.corner.

Welcome to the forum. You will get almost as many opinions about oil as you will with tires.

Hello and welcome.
Yes, the Amsoil is a great engine oil (I use it 100% in both my Wing and my track bike). They also have a rear diff lube that I use, SEVERE GEARŪ 75W-90. 1 quart does 3 or so changes

Why use 75w90 instead of 80w90?

That's the formulation they have on their website under our bike's listings, different weights may be available and I'm not at home so I can't check my own container but if memory serves 80 weight is what I have. Sucks to get old and forgetful...
