New member looking into 75’gl1000

I’m still somewhat new to riding. I had an yamaha 06 fz6. which was really fun till I had sold and. now i’m looking into a 75 gl1000. went by and saw the bike today had a little trouble starting owner said do to it being cold. sounded beautiful i fell in love with is at first sight when he fired it up. bike was very clean inside and out from what i can see. was able to get the price down to 3,300 i’ll attach a pic for what upgrades he’s done. i’ll be there friday for test ride. never ridden anything with an engine like this. any input positive and negative is greatly appreciated. thank you! look forward to this group

Wow, and original Goldwing. I'm a bit crazy on this but I'd buy that thing in a heartbeat to have one of the first of a long line of GL's

Fairing vs Youth -

Hey Jnich - Welcome. The 4 cylinder Goldwings are very reliable and are a pleasure to ride. With normal maintenance even higher mileage GW's are well worth considering.

Another thing to think about is that if you are planning on much long distance touring some time in the future, for the $3k range there are lots of fully loaded (1984 - 1987) GW that came with a frame mounted fairing, saddle bags and trunk. At 70 mph the only real substitute for the comfort of leaning in behind a windshield - is youth....

What ever bike you decide on - get a maintenance manual to become familiar with everything about it. Clymer is my favorite - but there are others.!75672!US!-1

The picture is so small I can't be sure, but this does not appear to be an original GL1000 on my PC screen. The rear end looks chopped and the saddle is different. If you could post a larger photo I'm sure someone here would be able to confirm.

looks like some did a café racer job on that wing. if thats what you are looking for buy it but don't expect it to be anything like the fz6 you had

Welcome to the forum. Good luck on your decision to buy the GL1000. Back around 2001 I had a 79 GL1000 for a short bit which was my first Gold Wing. It ran very good.
