There are 4 screws holding the back panel on two lower ones that come in from the sides, and 2 in the hole above the license plate.

Thanks the two above the plate were hidden, needed a flashlight to see them.

Now that the panel is removed, I still don't see the wiring. I'm guessing it is behind the rear lights below the trunk. So guess what. I need advise on removing it. I removed the two center screws in the middle, but don't know what others need to be removed.

Don't remove the tail light lenses. There's another panel, above the one you just removed. If I remember right, it just snaps out, but look for screws, since the old memory kinda sucks. The side panels snap off, once you remove the screws (3 each side) from inside the trunk. The snaps are pretty tight just like the side panels where you check the oil, or find the battery. You can pry them off with your fingers. The wiring harnesses are behind the upper center panel. You have to cut them open, carefully, not to cut wires, and splice the WigWag into the wires that go up to the 2 taillights.

I'm including a picture. Which 2nd panel are you referring to?

Thanks, I can see some wires now. The wires running left go to the lower lights and the license plate light. The other runs back towards the front. It seems only the one on the far right runs up into the trunk. Where do I find the right and left green wires with the red stripe? Just want to make the cuts in the right place.
