May need some help....

I may have to call on someone. My Navy son has been home from his MOS. He leaves Saturday to make the journey by car to Whidbey Island, Washington. It will take him 4 or 5 nights to get there. I am worried about everything. Road conditions, storms and mechanical mishaps. I have considered riding out with him and flying back, but that would create major logistic issues at home and work. If I let him go at it alone, I may need someone along the way if something happens. If you know the road conditions in your area or other suggestions, all help would be welcomed and appreciated.

His route will be Day 1 Alabama to Springfield, Mo. Day 2 to Cheyenne, Wy. Day 3 to Ogden, Utah Day 4 to Walla Walla, Wa. and Day 5 to Oak Harbor, Washington.

Thanks in advance
Phil

So far, the Walla Walla to Oak Harbor shouldn't be a problem.

Going by way of Springfield took him out of my jurisdiction.

Hope it all goes well.

Ride often. Ride far. Ride safe and do much more of both.
Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach him how to surf the GWOF and he won't bother you for weeks, maybe months
I'll be waitin' for you at the end of the road.
If everything had gone as planned, it would not have been an adventure.

Having lived in Springfield, I'll try and help if need be, but we are living in the bottom of Texas at the moment so physical help we won't be.

Phil, as a father and grandfather, I totally understand your concerns. Your son is a "big boy" now and he will be fine. Its hard to let go and not worry, I have done a lot of it and its easier to say than to do, but he will do great.!! Stay in touch with him on the phone and you will find that everything will go as planned. Keep the faith.!!

I wish I was along his path to give you some peace of mind..

Sort of along the lines with Tom here Phil. The man is signed up to defend his nation. He will be Great as all our service people strive to be.

Now having said that of course it's nice to know that someone along the route could be there if needed and I'm sure someone will be.

If you think back to just less than 40 years ago, if there was an issue for anyone along the road we either hiked/hitched to the next closest phone booth, relied on the kindness of a stranger, or waited until either the police/emergency vehicle came along. My have times changed. All anyone needs to do is dial their cellphone and help is there. Sorry I'm feeling a touch nostalgic this morning.

Additionally if you can get him to change his route to include PA. I will be there for both of you!

Thanks everyone for the emotional support....Something I really need.

Thanks for the heads up on possible issues along the way Kerry. I knew you and Ron would have better access to information out that way.
I will keep everyone aware of route changes as he goes along.

One thought that I had while reading Fossils message:

Most of us would really cherish an opportunity to help a service member in need. I definitely would. So don't deprive others that opportunity - even if it might make the trip for your son slightly more difficult (difficulty generate character).

PS One of my favorite things to do is to ask wait help for the tab of a service person. Sitting in Cracker Barrel for instance, 3 fatigue wearing service fellas are eating. I ask for their bill. Get this, my waiter didn't even flinch, right away she said. This wasn't the first time with this dance. I took their bill paid it and left. I would have really enjoyed their expression when they asked for their bill.
