Heritage can be a bear, as can I

So here in the boreal regions of Northern Alberta we have a serious fire hazard in place. Fire bans over half the province and some serious wild fires that are approaching what we faced 3 years ago. Sadly, last weekend (holiday long weekend) there were some thick skulled fools that insisted on riding their off road machines (bikes, atv's SxS) and burning in their open fire pits in spite of the high winds and signage banning such activities. I did stop by one neighbor's place and give him the gears for leaving a fire pit unattended, to which he merely snorted. Should have dropped a dime on the SOB (or dropped him where he stood).
Last night, herself and I were just enjoying having the main floor windows open and allowing some of the evening air into the house when I noticed the strong smell of smoke wafting in. I went out on the deck to see if perhaps the winds had shifted and the smoke was coming from the wildfire some 250 miles away...nope, clear as a bell across the lake to the north. So I went back in and thought it would just dissipate. Uhuh, was getting worse. WTH? So I went out through the garage and lo and behold a large plume of smoke was coming from the neighbor's back yard. Now normally I keep things pretty well in check, but there have been other issues with this neighbor regarding sewage leaks (and outright dumping, which they have been brought up on charges for) along with various other property damage to our yard brought on by their visitors and the condition in which they leave their company. Needless to say it took very little to get my Irish and Welsh combination riled and the dam burst big time. There were some very shocked faces when I left after promising ( in terminology that I cannot repeat here) that I would indeed call Alberta Forestry and report the open fire. What part of the two simple words "Fire Ban" do people not understand?

Don't poke the sleeping bear...you'll lose.

Stupid isn't that uncommon. Hope they contained their campfire. They don't realize what can happen if they hadn't experienced it before. We are wet down here in all but Ron's area of the US. I always hoped to come up there to help one day. You never know.

Hehe, been pretty quiet over there since my tirade. I hate to make bad friends out of long term neighbors, but you can't always fix stupid.
