I started reading the old IDMWT posts 9g ot to ~ page 15 some are funny as sht, and see you saying you know it will come. Hey, I DN DMW today. only yesterday and 4 days ago.
I really love the fact that this can be made comical!! (as long as no one gets hurt - which seems slim)

It does my heart good to see the membership continuing. When I originally started the thread I didn't think to many would fess up to having dropped their Wings, but I was wrong. Glad we can laugh about the "drops" and also (for the most part) nothing was hurt except our pride.

Keep riding and be safe out there.

I just found this thread, and thought i would cast my story for IDMWT #91.
actually, i have two entries, though there may be more times than i can remember.

As there are not any Honda specific service/sales locations much nearer, i buy most of my parts and supplies from a Harley service/sales store, that also services Honda (though i service my own bikes, most of the time). so anyway, i had just pulled into one of the special motorcycle only parking spots, proud of my 84 GL1100 Interstate (don't own anymore), and i kicked the side stand down, not knowing it had bounced back up. i climbed off, and my bike suddenly got a lot heavier than i was expecting, and down it went. right in front of a crowd even.

the second time, was with my current 88 GL1500. I had it up on the center stand working on it, and when i was done, i rolled it off the center stand, but a gust of wind caught it, and pushed it away from me. i watched in horror as it slipped from my grasp, and down it went.

in both instances, no real damage to me or the bikes.

Gosh, I didn't know there was a club for this! I dropped mine twice the first day I had it. First, I went for lunch at the new BBQ place which has a gravel driveway. There were a bunch of cars right in front so I decided to turn the bike around and back into the spot at the edge of the parking lot. Unfortunately I got a little into the grass which, unfortunately, turned out to be a low spot that was holding water from a recent rain. Apparently low speed turns in mud puddles are not recommended. The bike went down and I did a very dapper shoulder roll across the gravel. (Fortunately I'm ATGATT so I was unhurt).

After getting it upright (I had watched the YouTube video) I had a great sliced brisket sandwich (while my ego sulked) and then rode home. When I got home I noticed how much mud a spinning rear tire can can throw up under the fender so I decided to put it on the center stand (which I had not watched a video on) to clean the mud out. While trying to get it onto the center stand I dropped it onto it's other side inside my garage.

Having dropped mine on both sides I now feel like a pro and hope I will not need to do it again.

Of course there was also the time many years ago when I was test riding a brand new GW while the dealership serviced my V-twin. When I got back to the dealership from my test ride I tried to park using the low speed, turn sharp, and brake hard method. The weight got to far to one side and I had to lower it to the ground on it's right side. Which wouldn't have been to bad, but I was too embarrassed to leave it at that. I tried to quickly grab the passenger handhold and the handlebar and pick it up (and yeah, I didn't think to shut it off). Engine revs and tire smokes as the bike spins and I leap out of the way. Now the bike is sitting on it's side, idling, inside a perfect circle of burned rubber. Realizing that it would be impossible at this point for me to feel more embarrassed or stupid I simply reached out with one finger, hit the kill switch, and waited for someone to come and banish me from the premises. To his credit the salesman came out (admittedly at a dead run) asked me if I was alright and showed me the correct way to lift the bike back onto it's wheels all without commenting on my relative intelligence.

So put me down for three drops. Is there a prize?

Are you sure that this is not your "Point within a circle" origin. I do believe that makes you #92.

I guess that makes me #93. Rode my new to me '08 to work two days after buying it. Was letting it warm up on the side stand, and not being a brilliant mind, started climbing on and stepped right on the gear shift dropping it into 2nd. Bike jumped but fortunately also stalled. Saved by the highway pegs! Easy to lift up only halfway down. Took a second to look around for any witnesses and climbed on and rode away quickly. I know it's on the terminal security footage somewhere, but hope no one noticed. Still better than the wifes record of two drops in a day, in the same parking lot. Anyway, I'm new here still, but claim #93 with pride? Gotta say though, even if I only get a day or two a week to check in, you guys are an A1 group. Thanks for being here. T-Ger
