Some people are better than others doing it. My uncle could tell you which valve was ticking and I had a hard time telling it was a valve.

Have you tried syncing your carbs? You can get quite the knock if they are outta sync.

Sounds to me like the alternator bearing let go.....still a costly fix.
Pull the side cover off and listen near there.

I've never heard a bottom end knock on a Goldwing engine, but I've heard a bad crank bearing in a Blackbird. Pretty unmistakably. A sound clip (as mentioned) would be helpful I think

grab all the kicks you can baby, you only make this scene once!
