Reverse

Thanks for the info. That may solve the problem I'm having. I was going to post this:I have a 2002 GL1800. When I put it into reverse, it clicks and barely moves backward, then sometimes does fine when I push the button. Any thoughts? But now maybe I don't have too.

Buff don't have an 1800 but sounds to me that the switch isn't making good contact some times. Try cleaning it with Electrical contact spray, the blow it out with some canned air.

As always this is just one Ole Fossil's opinion

Already tried that, to no avail. Thanks for the idea though.

Then maybe one of the 1800 guys can help. Don't know enough about them, sorry. Are there any relays in the reverse circuit? One would think so and quite possibly the contacts are cruddy or pitted not making good contact.

Question Problem with reverse

I have a 95 Goldwing that the reverse acted up the other day backing out of the building I had it in while we were working on my sons 98.I have backed it out 3or 4 times before. But last Sunday when I went to get it out and pressed the reverse switch it moved may be 6 inch's or so. pressed the reverse switch again and it moved about 6 inch's again. Pressed the switch again and it backed out but then I smelled something that I thought at first was antifreeze. But then I decided it was something getting hot. Haven't stated it since. After reading what was said about the reverse module I'm wondering if I have a problem there. Anybody had a problem like this?

Dirtman, the OP listed his issue based upon an '03 (1800), since you have a 1500, my guess would be that it is a totally different issue. PM ole fossil and see if he has a cure for you (his is pretty slick on info for those 1500's) or start a new thread titled "1500 reverse issue" and maybe you can get more attention that way. Hope that helps a little. I sold my 1500 years ago and don't remember crap anymore.

I have the exact symptoms. I looked at the reverse regulator and couldn't see any obvious problems. Sprayed it with contact cleaner and blew it out with compressed air.
Tried reverse again and no joy. I'll keep looking. Thanks for the tips!

Cool reverse fix

On my reverse problem, it was the A and B solenoids that lost connection at the plug. That lasted for a short time then had the gear position switch replaced after losing its ground and that solved the problem on my '02 1800.

Buffdaddy55: I had the clicking issue. Took it into the shop (warranty). A quick fix. Something about a cable not being properly adjusted.

You know how you take an intermittent problem into the shop and can't reproduce it with the mechanic watching? Didn't happen here. It was a wonderful feeling to have it fail right there. Even when the GW acts up, it satisfies.
