GL 1800 shopping

I am starting to look for a Goldwing in the 2004-2009 range. I tried to do a search for any problem years but didn't find any. Up until 2012 were there really any major model changes that caused major issues? Don't really care if the bike has abs or not. Thanks for any information.

I have a 2008 and haven't found any factory related problems. 41,000 -8,000 ( purchased miles ) and only oil changes, brake pads and clutch fluid changed.

I will just say Welcome to the GWOF from Pa.

2004-2009 are good to go other than brake recall as far as I know.

The early 04 models were affected by the frame recall.I didn't know this until I got mine home.Checked my serial # and it was outside the recall range.I guess it doesn't really matter what year you get you should make sure all the recalls have been done.As far as the ABS If you ever get in a spot(I never thought I would need it either)you'll appreciate having it.There are those that will tell you that if you're a good enough rider you will never need it,but things don't always work out the way you think.I'm on my 6th Wing since the 80's and about 95% 2-up riding so I 've logged a few miles.I have already been hit and wrote off one bike so even though I rode like everybody was out to kill me before it happened I'm twice as careful now.Even so about 2 weeks after I got my 04 ABS a kid turned left right in front of me.I had absolutely no where to go so I had to get it slowed up enough for him to get far enough across the lane for me to get around him.I had no time to do anything, but grab a handful and footfull of brake.I know for a fact I would have hit him without ABS.Only had this thing for about 6 weeks now and this happened 2 weeks in.I always was a believer in auto ABS and now a believer in bike ABS.JMHO.

If I'da known it would last this long I'da taken better care of it(not talkin about the Wing)

2010 level 1

I too am looking for a wing. Last week I went into the dealer and they had a 2006 20,000 miles for $15,000. there was also another person looking at it. While there filling out paper work I heard the wing start and roll off to the shop. It was going for a test ride. I left and told the salesman to call me if the other persons paper work did not go threw. The sales man called me on Monday the the other person purchased the wing. He called me today to let me know that he has a 2010 level coming in this week and is looking for about 16,000 for it. Does anyone have any knowledge if there are problems with the 2010? Thanks for your help.

rcdoc, first of all, welcome to the forum.

The only problem that the '10 had was the brake recall.

If you find a Wing you like check the VIN# with your local dealer and he can tell you if it was affected by any recalls and can also tell you if the recalls were completed on the bike. Not a whole lot of problems with the Goldwing, so you should be able to find on without problems.

Oh, and welcome to the forum from NE Pa..

Welcome and hope you find a bike. Some subtle changes in '06 and newer but no issues other than the brake recall.

shopping

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and the advice towards my future purchase of a wing. I have been looking on and off but could not bring myself to purchase a new one with the price tag being over 20,000 here in Florida. You all have mentioned a brake recall can you direct me where i can find information about that recall. Thanks again.

I checked on recalls.gov and found that there is a problem with the rear brake sticking. Is this the one you are referring to?.
