Sound like you got air in the line.
Might give this a try.
With the bike on the center stand, turn the front wheel toward the right.
You'll need a short section of rope and a a small piece of wood about one half inch square .
Now pump the clutch lever a few times on the last pump put the wood between the lever and the grip. And tie the grip in place, and let it set over night.

Also check to be sure the reservoir is clean and full. I call it the Lazy Mans Bleed job.

Garage
Could be wrong oil, has to be motorcycle oil (because of the wet clutch), maybe worn out clutch disks, or like Ron Robertson suggested air in your line. On my 2000 SE there's a bleeder valve for the clutch on the left side by your ankle. Good luck!
