Had a good laugh yesterday!

Yesterday I'm riding along minding my own business on a three lane road stopped at a light in the far left lane. All a sudden I noticed the far right lane a tuff looking woman in a M.T.O. (Ministry of Transportation of Ontario) suv hits her siren a couple of times. She has her head out the window staring at a Mercedes suv passenger side in the middle lane. Me being curious, I shut off my tunes and try to listen what's up. Because the Mercedes was a car length ahead of me, I couldn't see the driver. I hear her say............."REALLY".........."Really, RIGHT BESIDE ME YOU ARE USING THE PHONE!"
I couldn't hear what the response was, but hers was "SO YOU WANT ME TO GIVE YOU A TICKET? I guess at that point he smartened up and put the phone down, because they both went on their merry way! I wish she would have the zapped them with a Distracted Driving Ticket which is a huge charge. You are only allowed to use the phone hands free in Ontario.

It seems that we have an epidemic of "the rules don't apply to me."
I had to take a package to FedEx this morning and was stopped at a red light at the entrance to the freeway. The gal in the car in front of me seemed to be busy doing something and when the light changed and we started the turn onto the on-ramp her steering became really jerky, like she was using only one hand. Then when the ramp curved to the right she actually drove off of the right shoulder into the grass, corrected and then hit the gas hard and pulled away. I still don't know what she was doing but I gave her a wide berth.

A few years ago, I was leading a group of 5 wing to a Rally outside of Kalona, B.C. We ere going through town on a main road two lanes each way with a grass strip in the middle. As we approached a stop light one on the guys came on the C.B. and says " Ron, Check out that car that come up along side of you. When I looked I couldn't be leave my eyes. There was a young woman steering with her elbow and a cell phone in each hand, the really sad part in the back seat was a baby in a car seat. Scary!!!

She needed to hear in stereo. But, seriously cell phones should not be allowed when the vehicle is running. I don't give a darn if someone wants to kill or damage themselves and their own property but leave the rest of us out of your carelessness.

I think the phone manufacturer's should disable the ability to text and talk when the phone is in motion, say over 5mph, unless it's connected to bluetooth.

I disagree. My wife and I are often driving together and it is often helpful for the passenger to be able to locate gas stations and restaurants along the way and keep significant others informed of our progress. The same frustration exists with how vehicle manufacturers lock down installed GPS units. They should use the front passenger seat sensor to unlock it so the passenger can enter destinations, etc.
Of course, that assumes that the driver will do the reasonable thing, let the passenger operate the system.

But, here is the real problem:

We live in the "its all about me and I don't care about you" era

and

"It's not illegal unless I get caught" mentality

for instance, way too many of my students don't see how copying homework is wrong

You are exactly right. we have an epidemic of "the rules don't apply to me."
I suspect it is that people have a history of transgressions without negative consequences. We are creating anarchists.
