95 GL 1500 Speedo stopped

I was on a trip and had the speedo go out. Got it home and replaced the nylon gear and it was working again.

With less than 200 miles since the repair it has stopped again. I cleaned the metal gear out very well and every thing was spinning freely and I greased it up. Planning on a trip to the Smokies for Labor day and would like to have this working.

Have you had this happen? Any ideas or solutions?

Yes I had a similar thing happen. Had it go out, cleaned, changed gear...hotsy totsy back together. Ran it for a hundred miles or so and out again.

This time I just decided to get all new from the cable assy to the hub/gears. When I took it apart to replace the cable had rusted through. I put all the new parts on and back in order.

Also just for conversation, when the speedo stoops working your cruise control will not engage. Yeah I found that out also.

Yup, there's a reason why the gear failed. Cables do get old too.

grab all the kicks you can baby, you only make this scene once!

Yep, another bad cable here also. If you have large hands, find a friend with small ones. There is not a lot of room under the speedo to get the cable on and screwed in!

I got the parts in the mail and started replacing parts. This was NOT an easy job as I have big hands. I do have a small set of pliers that I could get in there to brake the cable loose from the speedo. Internal cable was in 2 pieces.

All working now and heading to the smokies for a 4 day weekend.
