Dallas / Ft. Worth Mechanic?

My brother just purchased a 2008 ABS Wing with ABS and Hannigan trike kit. It has the infamous rear brake shutter so he took it to the Honda dealership in Denton Tx to have the rear brake recall performed and the shutter repaired.

They did the recall but said he would need to take it to a trike facility for the shutter. They did say it could have a warped rotor but it's obvious this is the issue with air pocket/fluid. He had the Rocky bleed instructions printed out but they didn't have any interest in them.

So..............can anyone give a recommendation of a mechanic that can repair this. He lives in Denton, Tx so looking for someone within a few hours.

KR, I don't know what info TAL gave you but I would bet he suggested DFW Honda in Grapevine. There are four other Honda dealers closer to me, but DFW is the only shop I've gone to since 2006.

Many shops that aren't a factory authorized installer simply won't touch a bike that has been converted to a trike. And most of those who will service the trike may not honor the original Honda warranty because of the conversion. Wherever he goes, check on that first.

DFW has been an authorized installation/service center for CSC and MotorTrike for several years. So they will standby their work. I have no doubt they would work on the Hannigan but, first, I would ask if there will be any conditions .

Keep in mind, working on the rear brakes could make the conversion an issue, even if its as simple as bleeding the lines. Ask DFW to inspect it first. If the problem is that the bleeding wasn't done correctly the last time, I expect DFW would work with you. However, if Cycle Center of Denton did some kind of damage while fixing the recall, your brother may have to go back to Denton again. But this time he'll have some backup documentation.

Good luck. And welcome to the forum. Hope your first contact with us has a positive finish.

Ride often. Ride far. Ride safe and do much more of both.
Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach him how to surf the GWOF and he won't bother you for weeks, maybe months
I'll be waitin' for you at the end of the road.
If everything had gone as planned, it would not have been an adventure.

Thanks, Randy!

The problem existed before the recall, like you mentioned, they do not service trikes per se, so they just did their part for the recall. Taking it to an independent tomorrow and see if that gets this resolved, certainly hope so for mu brothers sake...her hasn't been able to fully enjoy it since he got it a few weeks ago.

I'll update this thread as we get more information.

Thanks everyone for all the advice.

The independent went over the trike today; bled the lines, checked the rotors and ABS. There is slight improvement after he bled the lines but still there. Going to check with Hannigan and see what they have to say. I honestly thought bleeding the lines was going to correct this and if not, the rotors would be warped, the rotors were fine.

hmm? No worries, the answer is out there, just have to chase the possibilities.
