No rear speakers???

Hello everyone! My wife and I just bought our first Wing and so far, absolutely love the bike. It's an 01 but with only 20k miles. I'm going to make sure the recalls were performed; the frame cracking issue doesn't sound like too much fun.
Anyway, I noticed the rear speakers weren't working so I disassembled the housings only to discover there are no speakers. Were Wings sold this way? There are no speaker wires either. Where do I begin?

Congratulations on the new-to-you Wing. The rear speakers were optional.

IMHO I would go with the J&M speakers: http://wingstuff.com/products/32235-...?from_search=1
Along with this wiring harness: http://wingstuff.com/products/36579-...?from_search=1

The sound of the J&M's is better than the other. These same speakers can also be installed in the front without modification.
A little more money, but you won't be disappointed.

I do believe the rear speakers were a part of the premium audio system prior to 2006

Excellent. I will be buying four new speakers for sure. I'm good with a wrench but can anyone point me towards the amp or where I would plug the new harnesses in? There is no speaker wires at all in the rear of the bike and I literally have no idea if I should be taking apart the front of the bike or the seat off or is there plugs hidden in the rear someplace?

Thanks,
Sam

Link I provided includes the speakers, and the necessary wiring harness.

You can go with Polk 501's front and rear, depending on your year of wing, but you'll need a better amp to really get better sound out of them.

Your year Wing did not come with an amp, 2006 and above did. I suspect removing the seat is mandatory to locating any possible " optional " rear speaker connection .

Yes, no separate amp in the 01-05. The speaker connections are already under the seat. All you need is the harness from under the seat to the speakers. Depending on what kind of sound you want, the stock amp is not all that bad.
Adding the rear speakers involves removing the inn trunk liner. There are 3 screws under the speaker pod and two under the inner liner on each side.
Just make sure to get the liner screws in the proper locations. I believe two of them are longer.
