2017 GL1800A reverse not working

So after having the bike in and out of the shop several times since hitting the bear last year, I go to use my reverse and it works intermittently. When it doesn't work, I hear a clicking like a clutch that slips. No electrical issues that I see. I ordered a service manual from wingstuff only to find they are on backorder from Honda. I wondered if someone could help direct me in adjusting the cables, assuming that is the issue. Why not take it back to the shop you ask? I have had my share of problems with them and I thought this might be easy enough I can do on my own.

TIA

John

My advice would be the Fred Harmon videos. He's about the most complete Wing guru there is since Stu Oltman retired.

If it's 2017 it should still be under warranty. Take it to the dealer

My advice Don't buy Fred's video. I have set and they are a waste of time and money. The few times I have used them I turn off the volume and view the still pics of the area I am interested in. Haven't used them more than three times in ten years. You are much better off spending your money on the Honda service manual.

I had the same problem with my 04. If I was in reverse going up a slight incline, or sitting on the bike, it would not move and had a clicking sound. I started standing up and walking the bike backwards while in reverse and it cleared up the whole problem and then worked perfect. I read somewhere that the gears in the reverse motor are plastic, and if there’s too much pressure on it, it would cause this problem.
