Standard vs Tall Windshields

I just got a new 2018 Goldwing, non tour. The windshield is smaller than the one that comes on the Tour edition. I'm thinking I should get the windshield that comes on the Tour edition, but I'm confused as to the pricing. When I search on the Honda site, they offer a taller than a stock tour windshield, which appears to be almost half of what I'm being told the Tour stock windshield costs.

Which leads me to two questions. First, why the large price discrepancy if both shields are made by Honda, and secondly, is the taller shield better than stock ?

What a long strange trip its been...

On the cost side, Honda accessories are notoriously expensive compared to most aftermarket items. True, they are usually a higher quality than most, but windscreens not necessarily so. I remember selling a VTX and the customer wanted a Hondaline screen for it...until he saw the price. Ended up getting him a shield from National Cycle at less than half the price.
Not only is the other shield taller, it's also wider and does provide more weather/wind protection than the one that comes with the bike. However, you may get a bit more buffeting (head, hands, passenger) with the larger screen.

grab all the kicks you can baby, you only make this scene once!

I had the same situation, I bought a stock tour windshield from a fella who put on a aftermarket shield. The tour shield is 4 " taller than the non tour, and can be found for quite a bit less than the honda tall shield.

Cruisemans garage did a video on a new F4 windshield for the 2018 which seemed to be a good choice. I took a DCT model for a 40 mile run saturday and one of my knocks on this model was the wind screen. Even with the screen all the way down I was looking through the top edge which is not good in my world. Wind protection is fine but in general that is not much of a concern to me. I would personally cut 2" off the stock windscreen and if I for some reason wanted it higher I would just raise it. I ride in the rain so a tall windshield is a detrimental option. I believe the F4 is wider and has curved edges other than that I guess check on cruisemans garage videos and see what Chris has to say as he does a good job on these things.

Here is one on the tall windshield - couldn't locate the F4

The F4 shields are probably the best in the market, but you will pay for that quality. I think once you decide on which F4 shield you want, you will never have to replace it.
