2018 DCT problem

I just updated my software with Honda's newest update. Went fine, I started to update my personal settings and the bikes headlights and front flashers started flashing and the bike turned off. Headlights stayed on then went to just flashing turn signals. ABS light stayed on but nothing else. Finally after 30+ minutes everything went dead and I can't get anything to turn on. FOB is on. Tried inputting the numerical code in as explained in the manual that still didn't work. Can anyone help?

Ugh, sounds like a factory reset is in order, if the Goldwing has such a feature. I own a 2018 Tour DCT also but would not consider myself an expert on its electronic controls. The January 2019 navigation update went fine on mine also and the bike runs pretty good although I did not try updating any personal information inside the navigation system because there was none in there. Just a stab in the dark but try disconnecting the negative wire on the battery leaving it off for a bit then reconnecting it to see if that resets the system. Otherwise getting it to your dealer seems like the best course of action.

Thank you for trying to help. The slow charger has been on all night and Al's tried disconnecting the neg post for an hour. Nothing has brought it to life. I'll be on the phone with the dealer in the AM I guess.

Bad battery or not charged 100%, I read Honda had a batch of sub standard batteries.

I'm a Honda dealer and have no report on any "batch" of bad batteries. Might be a US thing though.

O/P, I hate to say this but I'm thinking a trip into the dealer with your bike in tow is in your future. Needs a computer diagnostic I reckon.

Similar problem last year on my '18 GW. Battery was either bad from the get-go or my trickle charger cooked it, replaced the battery, then went through reset process (see my previous posts) and worked fine after that.

I took the battery into O'Riley's. It only had 5V. They quick charged it to 12V and I reinstalled. Bike came to life!! I assume the software upload drained it to 5V after sitting idle since Christmas. I've learned my lesson. My previous bikes I could leave a battery in all winter and fire the bike up in the Spring. The GW is more like a car so lesson learned. Thank you all for your input!

Glad you found the problem. I used a Battery Tender on my Wings during the Winter and long storage times. Worked well and the Wings started right up after hibernation. I have the Corvette on one now. Worth the investment..

I've got a 2018 in the shop now and these things are very fussy on battery charge. My other goldwings will just barely crank but end up starting OK. This is on a drained battery of course. However then new wing which uses the unitized starter/alternator if the battery is weak the starter begins to grunt then the whole system resets and nothing. I full charge does bring it back to life however it's a bit unnerving nonetheless.
It's just something one must know so when it happens you better have jumper cables handy.
