Jackson -

Jackson is a historic city and Mississippi is a beautiful state to ride across. Great place for me to jump on to the Natchez Trace. Earlier in the year I had visited the Vicksburg Battle Field along with a couple of other battle grounds associated with the siege of Vicksburg. The Battle of Big Black River Bridge and the Battle of Champion Hill were known to have had an exceptionally high casualty count on both sides. Every time I come here it's very sobering when looking across the ramparts and the obvious field of rifle and canon fire.

Wish I could met up but scheduling issues. Ride Safe -

Old Port Gibson Road is fun to ride. An old road along the ridges with good curves. That's the road Grant took from Port Gibson to the Battle of Raymond.

Ride Mississippi -

Hey Mark - Thanks for the route recommendation. Always love to take the back roads especially when there is an interesting history involved. Farther down, Port Hudson is also a nice area. After the fall of Vicksburg, it's surrender was one of the final nails in the South's coffin and pretty much cemented the victory of the "Northern Aggression" .

Of course if you're out numbered Six to One and are dining on rats to survive - the battle is pretty much over. It's amazing how the banks of the Miss River have changed direction over the years and the location of some of the defending fortified bunkers wound up so far from the river today.

Ride Safe - Michael
