Out of Comission for a Few Weeks

I wanted to let everyone know that last Monday I had the good fortune to break the fibula in my left leg. Was cutting my tracks on the farm and a pine limb about 4" in diameter got behind my leg and the tractor tire was pushing it. I could not get my leg free and the level pushed my leg against the clutch pedal and stopped the tractor. Then the limb freed my leg. I feel blessed for when I saw what was happening I knew it would going to break both bones. I am in a cast and will likely be for at least 6 weeks according to my doctor. For the past week I have been doing nothing with my leg elevated. I can now move around a little and am back on the forum. Very little pain but I am staying off it until I go back at the end of two weeks. One week down almost and another to go.

One question to any of you whose bikes sit for a while. How long will you let it sit without treating the fuel with Sta-Bil or some other gas stabilizer. I will be off the bike at least 10 weeks.

Ray, a couple years ago I was told I'd be off the trike for 10-12 weeks. After about a month, one of the chapter members took the trike out for a couple hours. After 8 weeks, I was feeling mobile and decided to try for a ride. After all, its a trike, what could go wrong. Trike started immediately and ran as smooth as ever.

As long as someone can take it out occasionally to stir the fluids, flex all the rubber parts, and freshen the battery, the bike should be fine.

Ride often. Ride far. Ride safe and do much more of both.
Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach him how to surf the GWOF and he won't bother you for weeks, maybe months
I'll be waitin' for you at the end of the road.
If everything had gone as planned, it would not have been an adventure.

As The Dust Settled -

Yikes Ray - You write this accident up like you skinned a knee. If it had happened to me I'd probably have had to jump start my heart again as the dust settled.

Wow, that sucks and could have been a lot worse. Hope you heal quickly. If you decided to put Stabil in it, make sure you run it after you add the Stabil to get it into all the injectors. I've let a boat sit for 4 months without Stabil and no issues. They say 90 days with Ethanol fuel is Ok, but if you can get someone to ride it a bit and freshen the fuel you'll be fine.

Hope you heal quickly and well.

Tough deal Ray, but you will heal up and I would agree with the other comments about the bike

Lucky you. The fibula is a minimum load bearing joint compared to breaking an ankle. I fractured mine four years ago. I had the orthopedic ankle boot and never missed a day of work. I loved that boot.

Well I was looking at the limb making the leaver on my leg and said this is gonna be bad. Got it stopped and my foot was pointing in the right direction. I thought I had broken a bone. I knew I had not broken both of them. I knew tha5 was good. I feel blessed and protected. It is a skinned knee to some respect.
