1988 1500 Any Issues

Hey, new member planning on buying a 1988 1500 with 60,000 miles.
Looks to be well taken care of but Any issues I need to be aware of before the purchase would be Appreciated?

Is 60,000 miles alot for this bike?

Thanks, James "Red Ryder" Beyer

I't's barely broke in with 60'000 miles on it.
See if there are any maintenance records. With the age of the bike might want to look into changing the timing belts and all fluids ( coolant, brake and clutch, differential ) also, the plugs, air filter, sub air filter and the cruise control air filter. Just a few things to consider.

+1 on what Ron stated.

As long as it idles correctly and runs well, the carbs and related vacuum hoses are still in good shape. If it surges or needs the choke on after warm up, you could be in for a challenge or an expensive repair. Other than that, just consider it as you would any older vehicle and do a thorough inspection.

Okay Ron, No Mr Robertson or Sir.

Been riding for many years but first Goldwing. Was looking at 1800 for my csc friendship III sidecar instead of 08 Harley Ultra.
Ran across a 1988 goldwing with sidecar all set up, just didn't want to buy a goldwing that was too old,
so Thank You for All Responses!

Properly looked after those 1500's will run practically forever. Prior to 1995 (?) they had some alternator issues but Compufire has very good replacements available. The other stuff the guys mention is pretty much regular maintenance items.

Wow Ron, 210,000 miles, in no way will my Harley last that long, at least without major engine work.
That is why I looked at a Goldwing, for dependability with the precious cargo in the sidecar, my Grandchildren.
