Front end/handlebar wobble

1984 GL1200. I had to remove the front wheel to replace the speedometer gear (this is not the first time Iíve had the front wheel off). Iíve had the bike out a couple times since doing the work, including highway riding, maybe 50 miles total. Tonight I went for a ride and the front wheel, forks and handlebars started shaking/wobbling very badly. Fortunately I was still going slow, only in 2nd gear and was able to get it stopped quickly. Any ideas why Iíve done? All the fasteners are tight. Iíve never had this happen before. Have I put the front wheel back on incorrectly?

Thanks.

My 1200 put me in a wicked tank slapper and it turns out the fork brace was worn out. I put on a new Superbrace and a set of Progressive springs and all was good from then on.

grab all the kicks you can baby, you only make this scene once!

Are you sure you have the spacers on correctly? Did you tighten the axle nut according to the instructions? Loosen the left side axle clamp and re-tighten the nut.

I got my son to help tonight and everything feels tight with no play. Think Iíll take it back apart and see if anything looks wrong.

I took the bike to a shop that has done some work on the bike before an I was pleased with the work. He looked it over and ended up cleaning and greasing the upper and lower steering head bearings and torqued them down properly. He rode the bike some and so far so good. I canít find anything else wrong so guess Iíll keep riding it.
