Helmet headsets

Is there a big difference between a J&M headset and a regular 5 pin headset for open face helmets? I am considering an HJC IS 33 II for the new re is one on amazon for $224 and one on wing stuff with the j&m headset for $374, quite the price difference. Does anyone have experience with these headsets? I considered Bluetooth and I do use it with the other bikes but I have run into dead battery syndrome with it on occasion, weather riding too long or operator error leaving it on, forgetting to plug it in and such. Plugging into the bike is almost bulletproof.

I only ever used the J&Ms when I was hard wired. Same helmets you are looking at.

If you check out J&Ms website sometimes they have specials going where you can get the helmet from them with the headsets already installed.

Right now we switched to the Cardo Freecom2ís and I love them. Not sure I would ever go back to hard wired. Battery life is around 10hrs a charge

As far as sound quality, it depends on which J&M headset it is.

I purchased a helmet with the installed headset and it gives me a headache to listen to it because it's so tinny.

Check out edsets. I love them. Much better than factory, better cords, high quality sound.

I recently got an HJC IS-a MAX-2 directly from J&M with BT installed. Itís the only BT Iíve used so I can only compare to the wired sets. The sound is noticeably better, but it has the 45 mm speakers so that could be a lot of it. But the noise canceling is far better. It sounds good at freeway speeds and is excellent cruising at 50 to 65. Iím just having the dongle installed today so I donít know yet how the integration with the bike will work.

Helmet headsets

Ok, now I am considering the Bluetooth. The only thing that I would use through the bike comm is the rider passenger communication. The question is cardo or Sena? Looking at the Packtalk and the 30k. Packtalk is waterproof 30k is water resistant. They both are mesh devices but wonít talk to each other over mesh. What do most people use?

Iím running scala packtalk. If you take them out of mesh mode you can connect to other brands via Bluetooth. The price is high but I was using the g4ís for 7 years so I trust the brand.
