Break-in

Picking up my new 2017 level3 on Tuesday and was looking for a heads up on the factory break-in procedure.
Once I leave the dealer I will be doing a 500 mile ride, mostly highway , to my motel in Canton,Ga. with a total ride of 1400 miles in
three days of riding. I know I don't want to do a steady speed the whole way.

Canton, GA? About 40 miles N of my old GA domicile. It’s cold there too, as it is part of the Appalachian Mountain foothills, with higher elevations. A beautiful area in which to ride! Stay warm and enjoy GA!

Vary your speed and once in a while let go of the throttle for a second or two and then continue, the deceleration is also good for break in. Enjoy your ride.

All you have to do is mix your miles on the interstates with a few miles on the secondary roads. Preview your route and select some secondary roads that appeal to you and you will be good. Please take some photos along the way.

Ahhh Canton. Looks like a trip to Traxxion. This time get the billet tree and you will not cup your front tire.

Break it in the same way you did on your '06. Your odo is over 200,000, you must have done something right.

An old race car driver told me once, break your engine in like your gonna use it. I've always run with that theory and treat it no different with the exception of the oil changes. Keeping the new "manufacturing" foreign objects out is priceless.

Your right going with the Mega Monty. I think they maybe clearing them out. Can't believe how little the difference in price for the mega vs. just the monty.

Thanks to all the replies. I know varying the speed etc was the way most people recommend I was just wondering if Honda had
changed their recommended break-in.

So are you going to meet me in Little Rock ? If so you have just over 24 hrs to get there. Is that enough time for you to do 1100 miles ?

Change that 24 hours to 24 days and Lee will be waiting for you . I bet he may even be 15 minutes early

Ride safe and enjoy the trip

In all honesty, Honda really doesn't publish a set "break-in" procedure for any of their bikes. They only recommend the early oil change; but obviously you don't want to twist the thing to the throttle stop and hold it there and start doing street drags or anything (not that any of us would ever do that...).
The only thing I would caution is to "scrub in" the brake pads and tires some before going too crazy on the back roads. Panic stops on new tires and pads/rotors is not the way to get the best life out of them or stay upright for that matter. Tires today don't have the excessive mold release coating that they used to but they are still a tad slippery, especially in the wet or colder temps.
As mentioned above, drive 'er the way she's gonna git driven.
