9 Days to ride...Where to go??? Road Trip

Okay I thought this may be fun.

I have taken a couple of days off from work next month in October 11th through 19th.

I will be leaving and returning to Spanish Fort, AL. 36527.

My longest day in the saddle is 725 or so miles. I could have gone further but I had reached my destination of San Antonio TX after hitting Dallas, and Austin at rush hours. So I am not opposed to a couple of long days to reach destination to slow down a few days and relax and take in the sights then couple days push home if needed.

Longest Road-trip has been just south of 6,000 miles.

I love anything scenic.

I would like to give myself one day leeway for rest before returning to work or weather delays.

I like to camp as much as possible and I love all of out National Parks.

So now where to go?

Given my constraints if you were me where would you go.

Ready? GO!

With hurricane Irma screaming up your butt, I'd say ya better take an early vacation. Head west to Lafayette then north to Shreveport. After that ya should be safe, so go west to Palo Duro Canyon State Park, just because I'll bet ya haven't been there. Then further west to Capitan, NM and visit Smokey Bear Historical Park, another place I'll bet ya haven't been. Then just a little further west to Valley of Fires. May as well go south to White Sands and then to Big Bend, From there, well its dependent on how much time ya got left.

I like @Keefer269 suggestions. Another option may be to beeline to Joplin Mo. area then ride several portions of Rt. 66 heading west in between jumping on I-40 to pick up time. Cut up from Tucamcari to Las Vegas NM (That Rt. 104 is Stellar), then either veer to Santa Fe and up or cut up through Taos. Hit lower Colorado (Great Sand Dunes Nat Park and Mesa Verde Nat Park). Even the opportunity for the 4 Corners.

You have enough time to get to UTAH, and all the Gorgeous parks out this way.

Grand Canyon, OK that's Arizona, but . . . It's the GRAND CANYON, my favorite place of all! Spanish Fort to Grand Canyon is 25 hours, 1656 miles. LONG 2 days, or easier 2-1/2 to 3 days.
Arches, Bryce, Zion, are my Utah must sees. If you can see these 4 National Parks in the 9 days you have, you will be very satisfied.
If there's time, you can go further north to the Snake River Gorge, and up to Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone, if it's stopped burning by then.

I recently took the trip from Grand Canyon to Iowa, then back to Sturgis, and the Snake River, without taking a freeway. There is some BEAUTIFUL stuff to see, once you're out of the desert, high plains, farms, and get into the mountains of Colorado, etc.

The Northern Utah, section may extend the trip too far, but if you've never been, it's beautiful.

I would suggest the Lake Superior Loop. You still have time to get a passport if you need to. I did the south shore this summer and loved it. Camping in Ontonagon Township park was amazing. My tent was feet from the water of the great lake.

From all the research I did while getting ready to go I would have loved to have taken the full loop but time wouldn't allow.

There are tons of national and state parks in the area to enjoy. Lighthouses, waterfalls, wildlife, etc

Definitely do the Mackinac Bridge but read up before you do. It was a great adventure but it helped knowing what to expect.

I would say your dates are getting close the end of the season for such a trip but would be an amazing time.

Whatever you decide, have fun and post lots of pics

Just a way faring stranger

Nobody mentioned the Big Bend area. Big Bend National Park, Fort Davis in Fort Davis, Hwy 170 along the Rio Grande from Terlingua to Presidio, McDonald Observatory and Hwy 118, that end of Texas is really cool and this time of year would be just right weather wise.
