Do you screw it or not screw it?

So changing the oil on the F6b. Manual says it takes 3.7 quarts. I put in the 3.7 after draining. I use the Maintenance manual way of checking oil(still using my old one for the full dress 1800) which is you do not screw in the dipstick. It says to make sure at the top part of the mark. The manual does not mention not screwing in when checking. When I put in another .25 quart, without screwing I am right on the mark, when I screwed in, I am over the mark by quite a bit. So when you check, Do you screw or not screw? LOL, PS does anyone check the crankcase breather every 8k?

I follow what it says, dipstick just setting in the hole, not screwed in. I also just go ahead and use 4 quarts too.

It has a crankcase breather ??????? no I rarely check it.

I checked ilthe breather on my 2006 full dress one once or twice, it never had anything in it, I guess it depends on your wl riding habits and when you ride, where you ride. Yeah I actually put in a little over Four quarts today. I think you're right and have heard other people say they put in four quarts , I really had my engine warmed up and just let it drain forever. Probably the 3.7 people are the ones that just get impatient with the drip drip drip.

Every Honda I've ever had (and that's quite a lot over the years) has always said to just set the dipstick back on the hole, and don't screw it in to check level. So, that's what I do. As for the breather, some bikes I've had would fill the tube after a year, and some never have anything in 'em. I always just check when I change the oil.

Longtime rider, beginning with a Z50R that was too big for me.

(apparently Photobucket now sucks, so no more States I've ridden in map)

You say when you change the oil, you check the Breather, is there a shortcut other than taking out the 6 bolts and removing the left engine cover?

That is what most of us do, just throw in the entire gallon and send the container to the recycle pile.

No shortcut for the breather, still have to pull the cover. Mine last year had some gunk in it, first time though.
