Now if you really want to get down to the real truth.......

In perfect road conditions, ie. no loose gravel, no leaves, no water, or any other such debris, a totally bald tire with absolutely no tread will give the best traction. That is why when NASCAR is in town they run racing slicks. The only run under perfect conditions, always blowing junk of the track and stop if it starts to even mist.

BUT, since we NEVER, or seldom ever, get to ride in those perfect conditions..... then yeppers..... the more tread the better.

That is why I do believe my next front tire will be the BT45 rear tire..... more tread depth.

This is one of those 'claims' for which I would like to see some pics of. Have you pics of a broken in CT and a bold motto tire that you can show me how you came to this conclusion.

Funny thing is: I have heard a lot of comment on how the BT45 has more thread and how it lasts longer. But I have yet (less I missed it) heard someone speak of the grip of the BT45.

For those who are experience (like Hendricks) how does the grip form the 709 compares with the grip of the BT45 in the front of the beast.?

my comment about the wore out mt vs a broke in ct is simply this:

A MT starts out very rounded and as time goes by keeps getting flatter in the middle until time to replace

A CT starts out flat and gets more rounded on the edges as it gets broke in.

I don't run racing slicks on my track bike (yet) but the pros do, and yes if properly warm they do have far better grip under dry, warm, clean conditions than a tread style street tire. Even with the same compounds. But they use tire warmers between heats (I don't) to make sure they have optimum traction from the get go. A cold c/t may have marginally better grip than a m/c tire under any conditions (cold, wet, debris etc) but let me stress the word "marginally". No tire is going to save you from a dumb arse, ham fisted mistake.

Last summer I switched from the 709 to the BT-45. Under normal riding conditions I have found no difference in the grip. The big difference for the grip issue is in soft material. I have found in slow turns, U-turns, etc. the front wheel does not feel like it is trying to slide out from under.

I have the Dunlop E4s front&rear, and like them a lot. For me, they are the best all around touring option for a motorcycle tire. Great in the rain and windy conditions, and wear about 50% better for my riding than Stones. Stones have a softer slightly more grippy rubber a cost of wear. When the Stone rear tire is squared off it really sucks in rain and wind; I guess a car tire still has plenty of tread in that shape. I'm going for another set of E4's again, they are a little pricy but worth it.
