I'm saying goodby to the Mississippi River tomorrow. I was at its south end in March, now I'll be leaving its northern beginnings. What a river! Up here, with all the dams and stuff, it's more lake than river. Down at the end it raced past.

Also tomorrow I'll begin the prairie run. I've got several bottles of Five Hour Energy. Anyway, I've done it before so it won't be new boredom. A friend's wife considered it great fun as a passenger. Rolling hills she said. I suspect she slept through much of it but didn't notice.

Going west makes it easier. The Canadian Rockies are worth it!

I've arrived in Canada! In honor of the event:

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Hope you're planning on riding the Icefields Pkwy, Hwy 93 through Banff NP. Would be a shame to miss that one. Be safe.

Hats Off

Just wanted to mention that with a wee tad of help from yours truly, our traveler is getting a new set of Bridgestones and an oil change at Riverside Honda in St Albert tomorrow. Their service department is actually booked up but Vaughn and the guys stepped up and squeezed him in in spite of their busy schedule. Cheers to the service crew at Riverside Honda!

Well,Kkerry (edmkc) and I met up with Doug (austinetc) yesterday and had a visit and an evening meal with him. That is no small adventure he's on.
Doug, it was great to meet you face to face, and as I said, do ride safe. I hope your timetable works out for the future of your major adventure, including Scotland. Looks like you'll have another hot one today as you head for the Rockies. On the plus side, the scenery improves greatly! In a few hours that is... Hopefully the skies are clear when you go through Mt Robson Park tomorrow, it's gorgeous.

Now for the really bad news. In our excitement, we didn't take any pictures. So, to Doug, and especially all of our members, I sincerely apologize for my indiscretion and lack of foresight. I know, no pics, never happened. But I have witnesses...

Honeymooned at Lake Louise in 1983, so I have a great appreciation for the area. I'll hopefully drive south from Jasper for a ways today. But I'm meeting friends in Jasper tonight. They're doing a train vacation. Happy coincidence.

Many thanks to Budoka and edmKC for meeting with me for dinner. Special thanks to Budoka for helping with Riverside Honda and buying dinner. My GW is has new tires and fresh oil, and I've eaten fresh Canadian salmon, though it's possible it came from the US. You can't trust those restaurants to buy local (inside joke).

Route plans: Jasper, Prince George, Dawson Creek (Start of Leg 2C), Whitehorse, Fairbanks, Anchorage, ??. Some part of the return trip will probably be by ferry.

Just to be clear, I didn't forget to take pictures. I simply don't like my picture being taken. Never have. I wanted pics of you two, but knew I'd then be roped into one also. I have friends who share the rule no pics, never happened. In fact I'll be seeing them tonight. I cringe.

I can attest that it did in fact happen .

It was very nice meeting you Doug, and always good to see you again Daryl.

Hope you have a marvelous day today in the mountains, and of course for the rest of the trip.

BTW - saw a ton of LEO's all the way home to Fort Sask (Doug said he'd only seen one in Canada so far).
