Loss of power

My 1200 is showing a loss of power in the top end. With 135,000 miles, do you think this would be normal (part of having a high mileage 1200) or do you think it may need the carbs balanced or draging brakes or another reason.
I am looking for ideas.

Vacuum leak or O ring on the carb tubes? The vacuum lines may be cracked near the carbs and sucking air.
I had this happen on my '85 with about 90k on it.

I will just add that MPG's have not changed and the idle has not changed.
I will try starter fluid around the carbs and hoses.

One more thought. How about the fuel filter? How does the bike run at hard acceleration? I had a similar problem when I got some gas at an out of the way station. Water was stuck in the filter slowing the amount of gas getting through. Changed the filter and the problem went away. I could actually see the water
Of course at high mileage you may just have lower compression.

Hey Eric - Last year I crossed paths with a guy riding a 1200 GW with over 159k miles showing and it was running like a new bike. Perhaps you picked up some stale gas. I filled up one time way out in the boondocks at one of the oldest general stores in Arkansas and barely made it back to civilization.

Here is a thought and it could be a silly one. I put 1500 coils in and it has happened just after that. The 1200 runs out to 6,500 in 4th gear and it just seams like a governor cuts in and it dosn't want to pull more rpms. Everything else seems normal. Starting, MPG's, and not burning oil.

Not sure if the 1200 has a speed limiter. I know my 04 and now my 2012 do. Limits RPM to somewhere around 6500 rpm. I also believe the 1500 had one so the 1200 probably does too.

The 2012 has a rev limiter? Good to know! I've hit red line on the tach but didn't feel the rev limiter. I was curious if it had one.

You'll know when you hit it. The engine basically dies until you roll off the throttle. First time I hit it was "racing" my buddies Victory Hammer. Needless to say he out pulled me. That was one heck of a powerful bike.

I've hit the limiter on my shadow. Wasn't sure the wing had one cause it has a tach. Shadow only has a speedo. (Not a swim suit) LOL!
