Ten days ago I picked my first GW (a low mileage 2007). It was at the local dealership because the seller had agreed to put new tires on it. We had a light snow the night before so I was a little once worried about the weather, but by the time I got there it was 10:30 AM, 40F, sunny, and the roads had dried up nicely. The customer service person looked perplexed when he wheeled the cycle out of the shop and didn't see a trailer. He asks "You riding this home"? It wasn't my first choice but I was't afraid of it either. The day eventually got up to 53F and I ended up riding 125 miles that day just running errands.

I try to ride most days in order to become more familiar with the controls and the weight and balance. I was able to do a U-turn with my Vulcan in the width of two parking spaces. With the GW I am averaging three.


Last Thursday we had tickets to the Orioles season opener in Baltimore, so that is my longest trip to date. About 140 miles each way. I parked the cycle at a friends house and rode the train to Camden Yards. The train was packed and I had to stand for the five mile ride, which was way more exhausting than the 2.5 hour cycle ride. Of course the game went extra innings so I got to ride home in the dark. That was a first on this bike but no problem.

Oh, one more thing. One of my friends asked me if I had learned how to "stop that big bike yet". Wow, those Interlinked brakes and ABS are a thing of beauty. Probably the best braking I have ever had on a vehicle.

So that's me ten days into the experience.

That service manager was probably concerned about new tires on wet road. New tires can be a little slick till they get scuffed up a bit.

Thanks for your update on your first experiences riding a wing. That was a great report even without any photos.

My Wing will be 9 years old on the 10th, the day I rode it out of the shop and took it home. Shoot, I'll still be able to ride my snowmobile in the 10th this year unless something radical happens...
Congrats to those of you lucky enough to be able to ride.

Have had my new to me wing for two months now. I've put nearly 3000 miles on it so far. Yep, it's a lot different than my old V-Star, but I've taken to it like a duck to water. I hopped on the Star to run it around the block to keep the battery up a few weeks back, I was immediately uncomfortable, it felt really weird to ride it. Put the for sale sign up and it's gone forever. I think I have become spoiled and will be a Winger forever. (Did I get the proper term?) Plus those abs brakes are the best!

Thanks for the invite. I care for two elderly parents so my rides are somewhat limited in duration for the time being. You guys enjoy it for me and I will catch up with you when I can. :-)
