Mini Meet n Eat with RalphHumor

Steve and I, apparently, didn't get enough miles in last weekend so we decided to meet halfway for lunch. Nashville hosted this mini "Meet n Eat" at Athens Family Restaurant. It is an eatery that was previously showcased on the Guy Fieri show Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

I had planned to go KSU about 0700 and enjoy a leisurely run to our destination. That effort was thwarted by a simple tire pressure-check which resulted in, not one but, TWO failed valve stem cores in my rear tire. I check pressure with my high dollar digital gauge ($8) and when I let off the valve stem to read the pressure, the air just continued to pour out. I ran to Walmart and pick up a valve core removal tool and changed it out. Aired up the tire for a few minutes and was going to check the pressure. Guess what... It damaged another valve core. So I through that stupid ba$s turd away and went old school. No problems with that version so I got it aired up and headed out.

I rode mostly on the Natchez Trace until I got to the Merriweather Lewis memorial site and left the Trace because there is a long and stupid detour that will drive you 20 miles out of the way on the craziest route. So I took Hwy 64 toward the Davy Crockett State Park but... My GPS told me to turn on "Turnpike". Man I'm glad I listened to her. She put me on the sweetest roads toward Summertown and then back out on 43 for a nice 4-lane run at the last 60 miles or so. Good bit of traffic, especially in the Spring Hill TN area. Seems there was a Pilgrim Days festival to the south of me there and lots of folks out and about on Saturday morning.

Saw a gorgeous white Road Glide crashed in the median but have no idea about the condition of the rider. Lots of fire trucks, LEO and an ambulance. But I could not tell much other than the guy will be pissed when he sees the pictures. (It was not pretty.)

Got on 280 then 31 and cruised toward Brentwood (uppity section of south Nashville.). Made it to the restaurant a few minutes before Steve so I enjoyed some sweet iced tea which satisfied my parched soul until he arrived. It was about 72* when I left this morning but had reached 88* by the time we got to lunch.

I enjoyed a giant "Cowboy Burger" which included two juicy patties, onions, Swiss cheese, bacon, SALSA and... a fried egg! Delish!

We spoke with the owner afterwards and explained that we had each just ridden 4 hours to eat here because of Guy Fieri's "Triple-D" recommendation. I think Steve has a bucket list for these. We have future plans to come back to this area as there are several DDD options.

During and after lunch we "visited" for a while and parted ways for our return destination.

I headed south and Steve went north. I had seen a few cars for sale coming into the city so I decided to stop and gander a bit on the way back.

$27,500 for a 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser (restored)

Anybody looking for a giant pink Cadillac). $9,000

How about a rare red DeLorean for $39,900?

I eased through the area and passes through Franklin (where the festival was being held. Giant field, stage and a huge crowd enjoying the rock and roll emanating from the "holler".

Passed through one of my favorite little spots, Leiper's Fork and got on the Natchez Trace heading south. Knowing there was a detour a hundred miles ahead, I just figured I would find a way out later and settled in to enjoy the peace and leisure that riding the Trace always offers.

Stopped at the Collinsville Welcome Center off the Trace. Ran into another guy on an '82 GL1100. His wife was out of town so he seized the opportunity for his own 500 miles breakfast run to meet some buddies. I guess it's in our blood. A ridden Wing is a happy Wing.

Got home about 7 and totaled a little over 450 miles for the day. FANTASTIC DAY! Thanks Steve for suggesting this and picking an awesome feed stop.

Very cool day and thanks for sharing. There is a better detour on that closed section of the Trace on the west side that only takes you about a dozen miles out of the way.

Next time speak up, maybe some of us would have made the ride too. Not me yesterday as Sprout is here for the weekend. But if y'all do this again let me know and I might be able to make it. Nashville and back is a good day ride for me too.
