: Riding Dream
fossil92 11-23-2010, 04:37 AM So everyone knows that the Northeast, Northwest & Canada as well as our Northern Hemisphere International friends are getting ready to endure the long cold winter. So that brings us to the unofficial time of the year for unofficial style polling posts.
So here is the Fossil's 1st of the season.
Where do you dream of riding your Wing. The locations can be as simple as you like or as exotic as you dream within reason of course, so let's not say Mars.
I'll Start.
I really want to get all over the Mountain areas of the Southwest U.S.A.
rigginray6 11-23-2010, 04:44 AM I would really love to ride out to the Keys! Now that is a warm thought!!!
fossil92 11-23-2010, 04:48 AM ray I'm sure that would be awesome as well. I've done it in a car but I'm envisioning it on the Wing & it would be sweet.
Thanks for your thoughts. Let's hope everyone else starts chiming in. We may get some ideas of places to go that we didn't consider.
rigginray6 11-23-2010, 04:54 AM I think It would be a great Place for the forum to plan a meet up trip!!! I would Love to meet all you Guys It would be a real Hoot I am sure!!
chopin114 11-23-2010, 05:44 AM Ditto on the Keys ! It was many sunsets ago that I did it in a car also. The image of that long blue and white ride is burned in my cranium. The only thing that comes between me and that image is Interstate 95.
detdrbuzzard 11-23-2010, 05:52 AM why not mars? there is no traffic! :) but finding a gas ststion may be a problem
Personaly I love all the western states and the wide open places, but my first trip next spring will be out east, I have some unfinished business in Pa. ;)
Two Wheel Wing 11-23-2010, 07:15 AM Some of the nicest places I've been to have been around Cody Wyoming and the Tetons. So I would have to say there or my other favorite would be south west US (but only with less heat)..
bossdog 11-23-2010, 08:48 AM Since I'm in the southeast already, wouldn't mind a ride to the Keys. :)
joe in calif 11-23-2010, 09:23 AM I have rode in every state except Alaska, Hawaii and North Dakota,
my retirement ride was going to do a 4 corners ride, Calif, Washington, Maine and Florida abut about 2 years before I retired in 04 my wife hurt her back and is no longer able to ride, so now I don't leave for more than 7 to 10 days at a time but my favorite rides are Colorado and Utah.

Ron Robertson 11-23-2010, 09:30 AM I still have to finish off the New England states, then New Jersey, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina, then I'll have ridden this wing in all the lower 48. I'd really like to do that before I have to quit.
I really enjoy exploring the roads in Western Montana, Idaho,Wyoming, and want to spend more time exploring Oregon.

crownfire 11-23-2010, 01:45 PM The Keys is on my list also. But the big goal right now is to ride up to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia. I’m been working on trying to talk a couple others into going along next spring. It would add all the NE States and a Province to my map.
Today I’m dreaming of going for a ride around middle Mississippi.
budoka 11-23-2010, 04:05 PM I'd really like to ride through Monument Valey and take the Mrs to Bryce Canyon too. It's been a while since I've been to Northern California and the coast highway so that's due too. Now if I can only find the time!

Find the time in the first week on April. fossil and I will be there
( sanz our bikes ), but we can rent and ride. Arizona/ Utah here we come.
Work, and the muts keep us close to home so we haven't ventured that far out or that long.
Since we are dreaming, I would start at the beginning of the new year.
Jan: Florida keys
Feb: New Orleans, just in time for M.G.
Head for the Ozarks when the weather breaks
Head for Grand Canyon
Colorado
Northern California
Up to Widby Island (might have to stay there awhile)Wa. state
Work across to the Black Hills, Badlands to Deadwood/Sturgis area.
Stop in at Hersey, Pa
North side of NY state and Maine
Work my way down the coastline back home by summer's end.
And to make it absolutely perfect, catch a few White sox games along the way.
budoka 11-23-2010, 05:51 PM It's my doggone addiction that holds me back. I have a terrible case of paycheckonia. Maestro, if I could get away from the mines I'd be there in a heartbeat. I might have to be in Vegas for a meeting early in March but that's as close as I can get this year.
The Red Zepplin 11-23-2010, 07:29 PM My dream ride would be to catch route 50 in Ocean city MD. and keep heading west until I reached the west coast. I'm going to take a coast to coast trip one day.
fossil92 11-23-2010, 07:32 PM L2R, that all sounds like your just one Lottery ticket away.
I might be able to help though somewhat. I just checked google maps & it appears that you could be in Chopin Territory in about 6 hrs. Lay over & you guys can come up to Hershey area & Two Wheel & I can come down & away we ride.
All in all I think a 3 day weekend gets you back Home. Chew on that in case the ambitious trip doesn't work out.

Yep, just a dream right now.
But I do like the thought of meeting everyone. I don't have any problems getting away for a few days now but I would need a lotto winner to retire early.
Ron Robertson 11-23-2010, 08:11 PM Fossil and Love2ride: You guys get out here to Washington State, we are about 60 miles north of Whidbey Island, just give us a shout and stop by. Might even join you for part of the ride back. Could show you some really nice riding in Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.
I got more dreams then money.

Ron,
I got to take good long trip to your state about 10 years ago. I would not have imagined such beauty short of Alaska. Widby Island captured my imagination. Hurrican Ridge and mountain range was beautiful as well but the island just seemed to be stuck in time. I loved it. I was born in Sturgis and spent the first 10 years of my life between there, Denver and Rapid City, SD. I would so like to visit all those again. I have no doubt the ride you describe above would be great (we're dreaming not in color but in summer, right?)
Ron Robertson 11-23-2010, 11:47 PM Love2ride:
Late June, July and August make good riding around here. If you get out this might want to consider a Whale Watching Cruise out of Anacortes, Wa. We went for the first time this summer with family from Texas, Seen lots of Orcas ( Killer Whales). The Olympic Peninsula is a beautifull ride also..

That sounds ominous.
budoka 11-24-2010, 10:13 AM What's that in the background...theme from "Jaws?" yup, very ominous.
fossil92 11-24-2010, 01:09 PM I'd really like to ride through Monument Valey and take the Mrs to Bryce Canyon too.
Budoka, That is why I said the Southwest Moutains. I don't know if you remember but we were scheduled to go to Bryce when our Wing started to act up & we had to Abort & head to Sin City for repairs. I want to get back for sure. Monument Valley is cool but all we really did was a driveby. Need to explore it, plus a lot of areas.
Great Answers Guys Keep Them Coming!
budoka 11-24-2010, 02:02 PM The only thing holding me back from that is time, It's a solid 2 days travel from here to Bryce or more if I take the bike in the hauler so we have a portable home. Wife loves being places, but has trouble sitting still for long periods so she doesn't travel real well during the journey part. Me, I'm always looking to see what's around the next corner. I guess I could get her a commuter flight into Page or somewhere close (just kidding, she'd shoot me for that). But yes, that's on the list for sure. Actually, now that I think about it, Salt Lake isn't much of a stretch to get to Bryce...hmmmm

Now you're talking. That's where the little lady & I have a connecting flight when we go in April. We're flying from Philly to Salt Lake then on to Phoenix.
Plus you could always do a side trip to Wendover.
Mates.....Mates. Come on think about it. The weather is great when yours is not. You can go see a bear or moose, elk, bison when ever you like. But we have the bigest grasshopers {kangaroos] The best mannered bear that don't see you as food. A big bird [emu] that can run the pants off most things. Wombats and kookaburra. And a guide that you could really call mate. I'm waiting by the phone but don't all call at once. Eric

I don't know if he was old enough to know what he doen't know. He had his 5 minutes of fame and has not been seen since. And I think you have avoided my suggestion. I have been side tracked by a very effective, skilful mate who is also derailing the direction of this thread. Eric.

Eric. I was merely expanding on the diversity of the wildlife that await us in Australia. Your an locomotive engineer, get this train back on track.
I was on a totally different track. I see where you were going, but that was night life. Not wild life. Your post had not upset me, I love seeing the lighter side of things and that is all you were doing. So keep having a crack at me I enjoy it. Sometimes I am waiting in anticipation to see what someone is going to come up with. Eric

Eric, I have learned that the Maestro (Friend/Mate) is like having around about a 6 month old Labrador PUP.
Allow me to explain.
You can rough him up, he'll be in mom's sewing basket 1 minute & the garbage can the next. Your shoes will get chewed right out of their laces & he'll go skidding across the kitchen floor on the throw carpet smashing into the dishwasher. You can't have him outside when your cutting the grass because he's either digging in Mrs Hunnicutt"s rose bed or he's jumping on the Cross's kid. But & here is the big BUT. When you least expect it he'll jump up & lay his head down on the couch & hang out with you & then you remember why you have him in your life.
Oh & yes you're right he loves to take threads in all kinds of directions.

Interesting choice of words, Eric. Here there is not much difference between the two.
I have been watching for a crevis to take a crack at ya  but you cover your tracks pretty well (pun intended). Also, I learned never crack on a man holding a hammer!!!! (always a reminder on your signature)
I think my inexperience in the on line forum, may have let my intended message down. I should have had [LOL] to show my intent. It also shows the power of words and I think the way a word is used in one country can have diferent meaning in another. If I say something that is out of place, it will not be on purpose, but let me know. Eric

Just don't let him crap on the couch.

Eric, you are fine. it is I that should have put lol at the end of my statement. If you are inexperienced, it does not show and we all have to deal with the fact that voice inflection is absent here.
And please, don't change a thing. You make this place all the more interesting. Where is the fun if we all think and speak alike?
I laughed the first time I saw the 'hammer' line. We have a joke at work that we only need 2 things in our toolbox. A hammer if it is stuck together and duct tape if it has come apart.
Take care and I will dream safe while you ride safe.
Ron Robertson 11-25-2010, 09:21 AM Pull, push, tug, shove; There I think I'm back on the Track just not sure where it will head off too.
I want to go back to Freedom Rock. Located north of Greenfield, Iowa, south on I-80, exit 86, about 1 1/2 miles.
Visit www.thefreedomrock.com (I think I have the web site address right)
