Can the GL1200 wheels be fitted on a '78 GL1000. I'm trying to put bigger tires and one way of doing it is to go with '77 spoke wheels with some new wider rims but all that work with spokes and new tires would run more than $1200. A cheaper way would be to go with GL1200 wheels since there is a ton of them on E-Bay but I don't have any around to get the measurements and to see what needs to be done to make it fit.

hello and welcome to GWOF astor123, there is not enough clearance between the swingarm and driveshaft to fit a wider tire

Thanks for the welcome.

With 130 on the rear, as of now, there is more than 10mm between the tire and the shaft so 150 might fit but 140 could have plenty of clearance. I was more concern about the rest of it.

that may be but when the tire squats from hitting a bump with a 150 tire on it how much clearance will there be is the question

I have plenty of clearance up at the top since the whole bike has been redesigned and I know how to deal with the clearance at the shaft, what about the rest?
