: Psst!...... get in here,everyone.
chopin114 03-12-2010, 05:41 PM Now that I have your attention! I was conferring with an esteem member here and we remarked how many " Newbies " have joined our community in the last few months. In honor of this we decided to resurrect an old tradition in a new thread. You veterans will recall the thread entitled " occupation ". We would like to repeat that theme for all those members who have joined us since. For all, the question is this: " What do you do professionally, or have done, to support your love of riding ? " We encourage the " veterans " to re-post as a re-introduction to our new members. Your cooperation is sincerely demanded. Since the duty has been heaped upon me I will begin: Age: 53. 25 years as a garage door serviceman. Hey! It's a job, it's not my life. ~ Lee.
88goldwinger 03-12-2010, 05:55 PM well I have been a a/c service man for the past 15 years ! I have work for the companys pitting in 80hours a week till about 6 mounths ago . 88goldwinger 03-12-2010, 07:25 PM I think hvac guys like goldwings, seem to be the trend here???
joe in calif 03-12-2010, 07:32 PM O.K. I'll break the trend. I just turned 60 in December 09, I retired in December 05 at the age of 55, I had 30 years with Hostess Cake as a route drive and at 55 years old I had the golden 85 which means we can retire at 100% of our benefits at that time, so needless to say I retired on December 18, 2005. I have been riding Gold Wings since 1985 and my 08 is my 6th Gold Wing.
jaycojman43 03-12-2010, 08:32 PM Ok so I'm the youngest guy so far, 47 this May. I have been with the same heat treating Furnace building company for sixteen years, Love it... Something different all the time. I'm on my first Goldwing a 1984 that I am redoing. Torn apart in the garage right now.
JoPhoenix 03-12-2010, 09:00 PM no IM the youngest guy!! 21, and i LOVE goldwings. but trust me I do catch a lot of heat from my friends about riding such an "old mans" bike.
then again, its a 1978, so it counts as Vintage, which means its not so stale and boring in my group of friends.
twhite5262 03-12-2010, 09:06 PM 48 here in Tennessee , Just got my first GW , 84 Aspy , last week , have always wanted one, been in Environmental testing for 22+ yrs ,looking forward to heading to the East TN mnts this spring !!

cold steel every day gave me an appreciation for the nimbleness and response of
my MC's . I started riding in 1966 after my Navy years, man that was a lifetime ago.
I'm a proud Canuck, planning another MC tour through the rockies this summer with the
boys, three of them, nice to see them follow in the old mans footsteps :)

NUTCKERGOLDWING 03-14-2010, 03:59 AM Name Is Bill, Age 62, Most Of My Career As Heavy Truck Mechanic In Alaska, Worked Selling Trucks For A While For Freightliner Dealer, Now Working As Aircraft Mechanic Doing Mostly Sheet Metal Repairs And Rebuilds, Just Bought My First Goldwing, (1981 Gl1100i ). Only Paid 900.00 For It But Did Almost Complete Rebuild, Removed All Plastic, Repaired Same And Repainted Complete Bike. Can't Wait For Snow To Go Away So I Can Ride For The First Time In Many Years. This Is A Good Site. Thanks For The Help, Advice, Ect,,,,
crownfire 03-14-2010, 10:40 AM I am 53 and a Forester by training and wildland firefighter by position. I worked for 18 years with the State of Mississippi as a forester and 6 years ago switched over to the Federal government as a Fire Management Officer, and I really am here to help. I work for the National Forests in Mississippi out of Jackson. We have 6 forests scattered from Tennessee to the Gulf. I rode a bike (’68 BSA Thunderbolt) in and after college, then some time off riding for family expenses. Got a new bike 6 years ago (Yamaha 1100 V-Star) which I thought was left in a safe place for Hurricane Katrina. (I lived in Bay St. Louis, MS and left it at a friend’s house 20 feet above sea level – water got to 24 feet.) Replaced that with a Yamaha Stratoliner 2006 and bought a Gold Wing last November. Ten days ago a woman pulled out in front of me and I didn’t quite stop in time. Hit hard enough to toss me off the bike and damage the front pretty good. Wrist is still a little sore, but no lasting effects. The bike will be fixed in, I hope, 3 weeks.
A little long and I hope not boring.
bstar 03-14-2010, 03:57 PM Good story Mark and we're glad you survived the collision intact with just a sore wrist.
Hopefully they'll fix up your Bike in short order for you, was it the Wing or the Stratoliner.
About Katrina, we've all seen the devastation through Media coverage but I know we still
can't possibly grasp the extent of the the damage that was done. Locally some of our
city firefighters with special skills including our Fire Chief spent time helping out with search and rescue in the aftermath.

Learned to ride as a kid, my dad still has a big loud Kawi Vulcan. I'll be 43 this summer while me and the little lady cruise through Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia on our holidays. Crownfire, glad there were no serious injuries. Best of luck, man. The little lady took some pics as I was heading out which I would have posted but the poor girl doesn't know one end of the camera from the other. God love her, at least she tries. Finally off work for a few days and the forecast looks good so maybe I'll get some pics soon. Cheers !

A bit of trivia. My grandfather was living in Chicago during the depression era. He was a barber at the time and one of his clients was an average joe fellow named Walt Disney.

crownfire 03-15-2010, 10:01 PM I was on the Wing for the wreck. The insurance company is disputing some of the costs with the Honda dealer. I'm calling them both tomorrow to see what is needed to come to an agreement. Only had 2150 miles on it and it needs to look like new again.
We sure appreciated all the help that came our way after Katrina. There was a team of firefighters from Florida who were handing out water and ice just like I did after some hurricanes there a few years before. It messed up life for a while, but nothing that wasn't anticipated living where we did. We fixed up the house and stayed for four years until this job here opened an opportunity.
Skip D 03-16-2010, 07:33 AM I am fairly new to this forum, and I really like it,,,alot of good information and good people as well.

Should have probably put this in a new post by itself. That way more people would see it. My guess would be an electrical connection is either loose, broken or burned or the other possibility would be a burned out fan motor.
Peppyone1955 03-16-2010, 02:41 PM My name is Larry & I am 55 years young. I am a Forklift tech for 21 years & a auto mechanic before that. The last two bikes have been Goldwings.

Unfortunately, it's getting my folks to wear propper protective gear that seems to be difficult. :( Finally got them wearing jackets (even if they are mesh, but with armor), and boots (even though they are short boots).
My dad still wears the fingerless gloves, and my mom doesn't wear any gloves. She did ask for some riding pants though for Christmas, so I got her those. She also prefers a full-face helmet, while he only wants the 3/4 helmet.
Stubborn parents... whatya gonna do, eh? :o

Took 3 months to do because I was working when I stopped for gas & food. Kinda like the movie: Then Came Bronson!
I enjoy the frendship on these boards & all the I can learn. Thanks to all.

You haven't changed a bit since your last occupational autobiography. In this ever changing world it's good to find someone who is consistent.
budoka 03-23-2010, 06:20 PM This has been eating at me for a while now, and after still another forum member posting that he was nearly railroaded by a dealership into a bogus service for his new Wing. 600 miles or 1000 miles and several hundred bucks? Don't eat it Elmer, it's all horse apples! I don't know all the rules south of the border, but it certainly doesn't exist here in Canada. As I just posted in another thread it's just a ploy to get some extra revenue for the dealership. It's a fact and I will prove it to everyone.
At the risk of getting blasted for being secretive (ya gotta love the internet for the ability to remain annonymous, eh?). I have to come clean and say how I know it's true. I said I've spent most of my life in retail, and that is very true. My other occupations were also true, and I'm back in retail again (that's still true). It's what I retail that matters. I'm the sales manager at a powersoprts dealership, specifically a Honda dealership. I/we sell Honda ATV's, motorcycles and power equipment. So yes, I do know what is real and what isn't. Joe is waaaay more knowledgeable about the mechanical workings of Wings than I, and some of the members have more Wing experience than I do. But I can't sit here and be annonymous and see owners even suffer the chance of getting hosed by unscrupulous jerks. I ranted once in a post about Honda, and I meant every word about their lack of giving us what we want in our machines, and it was after a very heated meeting with my DSM that I vented my spleen (sorry TwoWheel I should have been more forthright at the start). That being said, I do believe in our machines and their quality of build, fit and finish. Not that I wouldn't like a moment alone with some corporate execs to express my feelings.
If I can be of assistance in any way with info from a sales aspect ( no, I don't have access to US invoicing sorry. Canada yes, but please don't ask me to wholesale you a bike LOL), I'll be more than happy to oblige. And yes I'm still going to post an update on the Canadian Navi software upgrade performance when I have it completed and running. So there you have it. I'll keep my name and dealership to myself for now. Some of us may meet on the road in the future, and I hope we do. I'll continue to crusade from the inside for ourside with Honda.
Badrider 03-23-2010, 09:58 PM You haven't changed a bit since your last occupational autobiography. In this ever changing world it's good to find someone who is consistent.
Hey chopin, all I can say is life on my side does not change to much. What can I tell ya.
Grandy 03-24-2010, 12:53 PM I support my habit by repairing traffic signals for the city of Tulsa. I am the supervisor of seven dedicated individuals. I spend a lot of time in traffic and watching a LOT of stupid stunts not only by cagers but bikers as well. It is a good reminder to me to expect drivers to want to kill me, because many of them drive like that. I ride either my 2006 Navi or my 2008 Shadow to work every day that is not raining and/or above 35 degrees. I am 58 got my first bike when 14, stopped riding when 21. Picked it back up when 56.
Poncho Ramrod 03-24-2010, 05:03 PM Wow Budoka ! That's what I call letting it all go, man. Aren't you worried about some bureacratic corporate slime ball taking exception to your opinion ? Some ugly dude in an expensive suit says "this guy doesn't fit our corporate culture!" Good luck ! Now....I have a couple of questions. I got a one year warranty on all the electronics and I haven't had a problem. And I got one year on the drivetrain plus an extra 3 years if I use my local dealer with there fancy expensive oil. No extra charge. What do you think?

savedbymonkeys 03-24-2010, 10:13 PM Hi folks. I don't currently have a Goldwing. I have a Harley Heritage Classic. I just started riding with a group here in Huntsville, AL and they have a great mix of bikes - yep a good number of Goldwings.
I'm here to get educated. I want to move up to a real touring bike and that doesn't have to be another Harley. From what I have learned about air cooled engines I think I like liquid cooled better.
Anyway - just wanted to say Hi. I am a sales manager for a Fortune 300 telecommunications company, since you asked. Holding on by the skin of my teeth! :)

lrjackel 03-25-2010, 02:04 AM I'm 66 and own a small computer company, would like to retire and do photos for extras. I have been riding for 40 years. :)

Hi back at you Brad. We have a great bunch here with plenty of opinions & discussion. I have no doubt you will be able to get the info you seek.
wingman6101 03-25-2010, 06:42 AM I'm a brand new first time on the forum 62 year old retired motorcycle service technician.
In my free time which is most of the time I still tinker with fixing my buddies bikes for a little play money. Don't work on Goldwings too much as they never break down, but love to install all the pretty chrome accessories. When ask; what do retired people do?, I just tell them that from monday to friday we do absolutely nothing; and on saturday and sunday, we have to rest up for monday! Sounds like a good plan to me...
WA9FWT 03-25-2010, 10:56 AM My cooling system has lost power on my 1982 ,any thoughts?
I sent you a PM message on your problem.

dead eye 03-25-2010, 07:45 PM I am 69 also which is only the second one I have read that is this young. I retired in 2002 as Vice President of the company I was with for 32 years. I managed 13 printing operations in two states. After 18 months of retirement I started driving tractor trailers to keep busy. I have been riding for 48 years. I have owned just about every brand of motorcycles but am on my sixth Goldwing. I currently ride an 08 GL1800.
TRazzo 03-26-2010, 10:20 PM My name is Tony, I am a supervisor at a cabinet manufacturing plant, and also do side work in my own shop. I am currently riding an 08 Harley Street Glide that has been practically turned into an Ultra. I wanted a Wing when I got mine, but since I was a little bit vertically challenged the Glide fit me better so I went that way, but ever since have been doubting my decision. I came from a VTX 1300 and wanted a touring machine. Now I am here checkin things out to see if I am going to make a change or not.
lrjackel 03-26-2010, 11:50 PM Welcome TRazzo, join right in, there is always room for one more and two bikes. :)

I'm 54 years old(my body tells me i'm 64, but my brain tells me i'm 44, i think i'll listen to my brain). I own and run a mechaincal workshop in which i am starting to slow down and taking more time off. Plane on retiring in 5 years time. I live in Sydney Australia were its pretty much bike riding all year round. I plan on riding around the whole island when i retire, hence i have upted for the goldwing.
My last ride as of today before i trade it in has been on my trusty Heritage Softail Harley for the last 17 years. She has been a good bike and i will be sad to see her go.
here she is for the last time :(

Intruder 03-30-2010, 12:56 PM My name is Bill. Since I took the time to read all 9 pages (so far) of this tread, I might as well add to it. I am relatively new to this site, but it has been VERY helpful already and I look forward to meeting and riding with some of you in the future.
I celebrated 66 years of an incredibly blessed life this past Feb. I bought my first motorcycle in 1965 while I was in the Marine Corps teaching on an A6A "Intruder" Flight Simulator. My wife started riding shortly after that. Years ago we both participated in AMA Dirt Racing and we both had street machines. That has continued in various degress and situations over the years. She rides with me now and as I related on another tread a couple of months ago, she is the reason we now have a 2002 Gl1800. I still have my 2001 BMW R1200C but she will not ride on anymore long trips on that bike.
I left the Marine Corps after 10 years in order to pursue a career in aviation. I have spent the past 40 years in many different flying and flight instruction activities. I am still an active contract flight instructor and an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner. People ask me when I am going to retire. My answer is always the same. How can anyone who gets paid to do an activity that they love to do, ever quit? My wife asks them, "How can a guy that has never WORKED a day of his life, retire?" Well, we're both right! :)
This has been some interesting reading in order to get to know a little more about the folks on this site. Keep the shiny side up.

Rode a dirt bike about 35 years ago. Quit riding when I dislocated my shoulder. My mistake should have kept riding. Got the urge about three years ago. Bought a small Suzuki after taking the BRC course. This was not too smart. I bought it on my wife's birthday. Did not say I was Einstein. This was entirely too small so after about 4 months I traded it in for a Suzuki C50T. With less than 1000 miles on it I was Coming home from a short trip a cage ran a red light. I failed to see him in time and grabbed the front brake while turning. Broke three bones in my right leg and two in my ankle. Spent the entire time reading The Profecient Motor Cyclist and joining the All about Motorcycles website. Started riding before being cleared by my doctor. All was well unitl October 2009 three days before my 71st birthday when a deer ran out of cornfield while riding at 70 MPH. Broke my shoulder, 5 ribs, bunch of road rash and a badly sprained ankle. Bike was totalled and Bambi went to deer heaven.
Waited for the doctor to clear me this time and now went to three wheels. I have a GL 1800 mounted on a Champion trike.
Spent 22 years playing soldier for Uncle, 30 some years building a photography business and now trying not to work. I just ride and love to ride. Also love the people I ride with. Member of the SCRC Chisholm Trail Chapter (Central Texas) All great people.

The Red Zepplin 03-31-2010, 07:45 AM Hi folks. My name is Bill and I will turn 45 this summer. I teach 7th grade English for a charter school. I have been teaching for a little over 8 years. Before that, I owned a chain of laundromats.
I started riding three years ago by taking the MSF basic riding course. What a deal, you learn how to ride on someone elses bike and use their gas. My first reason for wanting to ride was high gas prices. I bought an 81 Honda CX500 Custom to commute to work on. Needless to say I caught the riding bug and started riding for fun. I even joined the Masonic Motorcycle Club Int. to have some friends to ride with.
My wife was not very enthused about me learning to ride, but she agreed under two conditions. First I had to take the safety course. Second I had to promise to wear a helmet whenever I ride. I had planned on doing those anyway so I was set. She didn't want to have anything to do with my bike until last summer when she saw how much fun I was having on my group rides:D. About June she started hinting that I might need a bigger bike so she could ride with me. Taking that as a green light to get a new bike I started looking. I found a 1994 GL1500 SE on ebay and fell in love with it. The price was right so I bought her and then drove to the other end of the state to pick her up. My first ride on a Goldwing was over 200 miles from just south of Pittsburgh to Bloomsburg PA. I was amazed at how easy it was to ride compared to my old bike. No numb hands and butt anymore.
lonewolftx 03-31-2010, 08:24 AM Occupation, Wing rider. Retired from corrections in Jan 2009. Jeanne and I are one retired cpl that spend all day togather and love it. We are full time RVrs located in Bandera TX for now. When the Texas heat sets in we are going to western Kansas for the summer. Have been a biker since I was 9. Welcome to all new members. Lots of good people here.

Climb aboard Zepplin ! You grammar and spelling is impeccable as it should be for a man of your profession. I returned to riding at age 47 ( 7 years ago). My new Goldwing purchase is an attempt to share my riding pleasure with the wife. I have a degree in English Literature, but then again English is my spoken language ( no challenge there ). In spite of my education I still managed to get a job. Lots and lots of good 1500 riders here to share technical info. A veritable motley crew of motorcycle lovers.

Welcome ! I have a friend in Dandridge Tenn. Any time I want to get out of Virginia for a few days and go riding in some scenic American country I have a place to stay.
LSC9901 06-02-2010, 09:29 PM In my 6th decade now. Have been riding for about 35 years with some breaks in there because of kids in college and assorted other reasons. Have wanted a Goldwing for many, many years and now 6 years into retirement I have finally found one that fits all my requirements. Mainly the price. Mine is a 21 year old, 1989 GW 1500. It has a couple of issues but hopefully nothing we cannot overcome ..... with your help. My wife enjoys riding in the lazy boy seat. She has yet to fall asleep but with all the stories I've heard I'm sure it is just a matter of time.
So far on this forum I've asked a few questions and everyone has been extremely helpful. I plan on attending Americade next week. Maybe we'll bump into one another. I'll be the old(er) guy !!!

timsaidhi 06-03-2010, 06:57 PM Just want to say thanks for the site. It has helped me to get my wing rideable. I am a Truckdriver working in the oil patch in East Texas. 48 years old and I have had bikes almost all my life so many I lost count. Second wing I owned. !st was bad experience of wobbling steering on 81 and noise coming from engine. Owned it 2 weeks and traded it off. It scared me to ride it with the wobble. But I now own a 93 aspy. I rode it and it made my cheeks slap my ears with the take off power it had. Smooth and awesome ride. I am an X Harley rider of 06 Heritage Classic cause it just didn't fit the wife and I cause of Bucket Guts, lol. Hope to meet you all some day on the road.
PMarch 06-03-2010, 07:38 PM I live in Canada. I was in the Navy for 25 years and retired.(with Pension)

She had no interest in riding and I could'nt afford it. I had to sell the bike. After the divorce, I got a 2001 Honda Shadow 600. I met my sole mate :) who loves riding. We married in 2004. All I had to do, was to have her sit on a Goldwing. She was hooked. We bought a 2010 Wing with navi in March. We love it.

Cool Stuff. I learned to ride on my brother's Yamaha Enduro 175 that was an awesome bike. His was green. Those were the days.
chopin114 06-03-2010, 07:57 PM What an eclectic assembly we have here on the " Goldwing Owners " forum. Reading through these is like reading through a Blue Book of " Who's Who " in Goldwing World. Who would have ever thought that " Redfox " came close to being a famous male stripper ? That's right, some members are reading this stuff. But what's said in the Forum..... stays in the Forum.

Bossman 06-05-2010, 12:49 AM Well friends I am a retired firefighter. Retired in 2000, after three days sitting around the place. I went to work for the local Sheriff's Dept. as their Communications Supervisor and 911 Coordinator. Did that for 6 years and got tired of four walls. I needed a change- So I went to work for a neighboring County as their Inmate work crew Supervisor Yep I run a work crew consisting of 6 to 10 inmates doing projects for the county and non-profit orgs. Hence the name Bossman! I'm 54yo still going strong, ride my 08 White Wing 6 days a week. Started out on a Honda SL125 and still on two wheels. Richard
dusty 06-05-2010, 07:23 PM Hello folks, I'm a rather young fella for the Goldwing crowd at only 40, but I've always loved Wings. I am in my 21st year in the Canadian Military, spent 15 years as a heavy equipment mechanic then retrained ( it is possible) as a Airplane engine mechanic 5 years ago. I also paint cars/trucks/bikes and whatever you can think of including steel doors to help support my Biking and snowmobiling habbit. The Wing I drive was a rebuilder I bought smashed and repaired last year.

blk93wing 06-09-2010, 06:14 PM I'm Ron, 46 and work as a diesel tech for a truck leasing company. I've been riding since I was 14 (in the dirt on an 125 enduro), took it to the street for 2 years. Moved up to a first year 4 stroke GS550 for quite a few years, then to a '83 Yamaha Venture and picked up a '93 GL1500 Interstate. Currently I'm the chapter director of the GWRRA (OH-P) chapter in Medina, Oh. If you haven't guessed, I do as much of the work on my bikes as I can. I started to repaint the old Venture but ran into some issues with the plastics cracking and have put that on the back burner for the time being.

RKP000 06-12-2010, 06:13 AM Hi,
I'm 51. My 2010 is my second Wing but I've had many cruisers and crotch rockets in the past 30 years. Wings rule! I am a technical analyst. I manage a bunch of computers (main frames, servers and PCs) that "talk" to 2 nuclear reactors at a power plant in upstate NY. Not to worry - the computers only gather data - humans run the reactors but we rely on the computer data heavily. In my spare time I am a motorhead! Do all my own work - engines, electrical and paint. Have a tricked out Vette that I show, tricked out 4 X 4 with lift kit and a few other toys to keep me busy. YEAH, I am divorced - so now I can spend my $$$ on the toys I want.
You guys on this forum have been a great help!

you are about the only person i have seen or talked to, who has owned a madura. i had the 83 1200 madura! that was one heck of a ride man. i had to replace the rear shock, cause i always rode 2 up. the shock didnt last long! my wife and i rode that thing from cincinnati, to myrtle beech, with no windshield, small gas tank, no hyway boards, nothing! wow, that was a ride! and there was no where to put anything on the back, cause you were either blocking the tail light, or the license plate. after that is when i decided to go goldwing!!! keep on winginit rick

That's scary. You mean the federal govt. has oversight of the rail industry, TOO? Like with the offshore oil industry?
Let's see, that must mean that some time next week a runaway train is going to derail into a crowded orphanage, setting off a wildfire that will burn a major city to the ground while generating sufficient smoke and smog to launch the planet into a decade of nuclear winter.
Right?

Right?
Actually, the organization was set up in the 1800's to combat the robber-barons that had completely put a monopoly into place. We're mostly there to ensure that the railroads don't overcharge for their service, ensure that the rates that are charged are fair and just for both the shippers and the railroads, protect the interests of labor when dealing with the railroads and also administer issues like the "Rails to Trails" program and other environmental issues. The latest one that has come to light is the theory that coal dust from the coal trains actually weakens the ballast, thus causing higher maintenance costs for the railroads.
So, no, the nuclear winter theory is right out!
60 yrs old, got my first Gold Wing a week ago. and loving it. Will love it a lot better when I get my highway pegs in. Work for Boeing Corporation in Maryland. Rode (for 10 Years) many Hondas years ago and got away from it for 30 years. Got back into bikes 2 years ago and quickly decided I needed a Gold Wing.
Thought I was on this string and posted but appears it went to another post. Sorry about that. 60 yrs old. Live and work (Boeing Corp) in Maryland. Rode Hondas when I was younger or 10 years, got away from it for 30 yrs. Back into riding 2 years ago. Could not wait any longer and bought a Red 2010 Gold Wing last week. Loving it so far. Need to get Highway Pegs installed (waiting on delivery).

I have a 1984 Plain Jane GL1200 and have owned it since new. I had a 1982 Aspencade, but when I hear the 1984 was the last year for the Plain Jane, I had to have one lol.
The only issue I have is that Honda stopped build parts for it!!!
I have been looking for a backrest for several years now with no luck.
I love the bike and will be riding it for years to come!!!!!!!

Rapier 06-19-2010, 09:32 PM How did you get the map on your signiture?
Check out http://www.epgsoft.com/VisitedStatesMap/VisitedStatesMap.html then when you have the graphic, edit your signature via the User CP.
Ok.
54. Old, very old. 08 Wing which is bike number 3 and my second Honda. Food inspections administrator for state dept of agriculture. Former federal employee doing similar things. Involved in organic farming. Headed to Pacific Northwest with my 15 year old son in a week or so, with new trailer in tow (behind the bike where it belongs!). Towing the Goldwing behind a vehicle would be a Sin!
Bike # 1, used 750 Nighthawk. Never a problem. New 03 Concours, the same. About 10 months on the new (to me) Goldwing. All good.
If I could JUST get the intercom system working on the thing! Help!
Regards,
Dart

Not sure, but I think you have to be a "$$$" member in order to add it to your sig line.. Maybe the moderator or admin will know..

TODDFF&F 06-25-2010, 10:24 PM Hi, my name is Todd and I am a rideaholic....
I was a painter for 20 years, put the wife through school and retired at 40. That got boring so I opened Family Firearms & Finishes and transformed my love of guns into a new business which we use for another retirement fund. Granted I thought my gun hobby was expensive untill I starting buying motorcycle parts (OMG). I should have bought a pipebender and a chroming set up! During the summer we do 1 gunshow a month and it lets the boy and I or the wife ride as much as we want anytime we want.
I had a bike several years ago and family happened, the we got quads and eventually got another street bike (VStar1100) but always wanted a wing. The wife and boy outgrew the love of ATVing and really liked riding the street bike but could only stand 45 minuets on the VStar so we sold all of them and stumbled into a great deal on a 02 GL1800 with low miles. With the help of Two Wheel Wing, all is good and everything is perfect with it and we are ready to go.
Stratman 06-26-2010, 12:00 PM Welcome from Canada Todd. The first step is admitting it. Some may still be in denial :).
Ride safe,
Strat

AdventureWing 07-05-2010, 03:30 PM I am a reformed banker now working as a health-care executive. Based on the 50 year old retirees in the forum I took the wrong fork in the road. I am 43 and will probably never retire (not because I don't want to). I have a passion for bikes and that has had an adverse impact on my retirement saving. I just bought my '05 Wing. I really like the bike. It sits in the garage and keeps my Vulcan Nomad, ZX6R, Versys, WR450, and Ninja 650R company. Like I said I have an addiction ... it's not good for savings but it's great for the soul!

One day I should hop on the Car ferry from Manitowoc Wis, right across the lake from you, and see all that warehouse of equipment
you have. How do you pick which one to ride each time.
Now I have a good excuse to cross lake Michigan some time.:)

chopin114 07-07-2010, 05:59 PM Thanks to all who checked in so far. The " bios " are important as we consider ourselves a community here. This is a " Goldwing Owners " forum and we perhaps should, but don't, differentiate between the Goldwing and the Owner.

BigDaddy 07-08-2010, 05:20 PM Well, I will join in on the fun even tho I am without a ride right now. Anyways, I work for a company called Featherlite Gaphics. It is a paint and graphic shop that does all the painting and graphics for the Nascar race transporters that you see at the race tracks. I am the supervisor of the paint shop. Been there for 12 years.

Loved it for around town but with the wife on the back anything over an hour was painfull for her,
So I got the wing ensuring happy comfortable 2 up riding.......guess what......the wife tests for her bike license this Sunday, and after all the practice she has been getting she will pas no problem, she gets her new bike next spring.
As to occupation, I am a professional photographer and have been for 30 years

Wish they made the cockpit big enough for my GW... I'd bring it!!!
budoka 08-25-2010, 06:44 PM Maybe you'll just have to get a PPC for a wide-body, then you could put the wing in the cargo bay LOL. I don't fly the big stuff, just my Wichita bug smasher now, but they never design any aircraft around the needs and comfort of the guys doing the driving up front, unlike our two wheel steeds. Biggest plane I've ever flown is a Kingair
100; no more pilot room than a Navajo 310, what's that about? Pre 9-11 I had many rides n the jump seats (thnks to my fly buddies working for the majors) of 737's, A320's even a 747. Only the 747 was what I'd call slightly roomy, the 737 is particularly cramped IMO.
PilotRon 08-25-2010, 06:50 PM yes.. i have type in 737, 757, 767, DC9, EMB145... been a busy career.... still love it!!!
Locknut 08-25-2010, 10:49 PM I'm 60 and just bought my second Wing. My first one was a GL1000 with a Vetter fairing.... Then I went to Harley, sold that and had a BMW K1100LT for 17 years and just purchased a brand new, RED 2010 Goldwing. I've been an electrician for 36 years, IBEW. I know, my Harley friends are already giving me the digs, but I can hanle it.
I have one year, two months and 20 days to retirement..... well, I will have the bike paid off first! Then retire! I have a lot of roads I want to explore. The wife likes the Wing, hated my BMW. Took her for a ride on an Harley Ultra Classic and she didn't like that either. Said the Wing was the most comfortable bike she had ever been on.
S-O-L-D! Stay tuned for more news!

marcad 08-25-2010, 11:37 PM :)Guess I'll jump in..
Turned 72 this July and bought my 2008 new last year on my 71st birthday with wife's blessings.
Retired USMC/UAL..
My first bike was a 1957 Japanese 350cc Cabton when stationed at Iwakuni, Japan. Sold it when I finished my 15 month tour and
was out of riding for about 40 years until I got back into it in 2003 (after taking the BRC with MSF and subsequently ERC) with a VTX 1300. Rode that for 2 years and then got a BMW K1200LT which I had for 4 years. Had a left hip replaced so I got the GW for its lower CG and better low speed handling qualities. Wondered why I waited so long to get the GW.
Oh, I retired in 2000 and ride everyday since I got my VTX. Riding is my daily therapy as prescribed by the wife. Also a Proud member of Patriot Guard.
I do an annual trip from Las Vegas to visit my son in Tampa, Fl. Have done it 8 times so far and plan to continue as long as the body holds out..Can't think of a better way to keep body and mind sharp until I take that final flight westward..
Ride safe all..
CDNRIDER 08-26-2010, 03:04 AM Hi there I'm a 57 year old level 1 trauma nurse working in the big city of Edmonton AB. Have been riding since I was 16 and still get a thrill throwing my leg over a bike. This '04 is my second wing having wrote my '97 off in May. I don't recommend this to anyone. I still have my '74 CB 750 with 90,000 miles on it that I bought brand new. Still a thrill taking it out for a scoot. Going to retire in 3 years and go looking for a longer riding season.
dbcrowe 08-26-2010, 12:54 PM Might as well chime in too. I'm creeping up on 43, and have been in federal service for a little over 20 years. Just recently got my first wing, and am loving every minute of it.

" I'm creeping up on 43 ". The 50's will outrun you so you won't have to creep. You have a 1500 SE in White ? Sweet bike and excellent color. My riding buddy in PA has a 1500 SE in Burgundy. Nice color when it is sitting next to a White Wing.
88winger2be 08-27-2010, 09:00 AM Hi all. I'm 37,will be 38 on sept 4 and I'm an auto mechanic for a used car dealer. I have had mostly sport bikes. Just started riding in 2002. I drag raced my street bikes, I had a 427 hp turbo hayabusa that was a beast and alot of fun but got burned out on all that. I bought a 01 vstar 650 a little over a yr ago and enjoy cruising with my wife but it's just not comfortable to me. I'm almost 6ft5 and need leg room. I am getting my first goldwing Saturday and can't hardly wait. It's an 88 gl1500 w/69000 miles. I look forward to cruising alot and going to different states.

This my 3rd new bike since 2006 and I did check this forum before making my purchase. I wanted to make sure there were lots of other old guys out there who could handle the size and weight of the Wing before buying it. LOL.
