I just picked up a 1980 GL1100 with 27K. It has a Windjammer fairing that is in pretty bad shape. The saddle bags are hard plastic Honda brand and the raised trunk is another brand. The bike has rust and I plan to remove the fairing, saddlebags, and trunk and associated hardware so I can really work on just the bike.

I think long-term I might put leather saddlebags only with no trunk. For cost reasons, I'm not that hung up on replacing the fairing. I would rather just put a new windshield on the bike. I don't seem to see after market windshields that are'nt for a fairing.

My question - will I have to have a fairing to put a windshield on this bike? If not, what would be my options? Feel free to comment on what a stupid idea this is as well.

That being said, if I ever wanted to get my wife on the bike, I'm going to need a seat upgrade as well, one with a back and arms would be appealing to her. Any ideas for that as well?
