: Tires
fanofthe3car 02-17-2010, 05:26 PM Hello everyone,,
I have a 2006 Goldwing and I need to get new tires I heard the Dunlop Elite 2 or 3 series is the way to go what are your thoughts?? Thanks Dean
Radarsdad 02-17-2010, 07:13 PM I have a friend that replaced his tires with Bridgestones and swears he won't go back to the Dunlops. I've only got 4500 miles on my '08 but when it's time, I'll probably go with the "Stones" too.
lunger 02-17-2010, 07:23 PM On my 87 interstate I got beter mileage from the Bridgestones than Dunlops. But they were not E3's.My 95 will need tires this year. I'm leaning toward trying the E3's
fanofthe3car 02-17-2010, 08:36 PM I just called my local honda dealer and they want $583.00 to installed them.. Does anyone know how much the Bridgstones are??
So-Cal 02-17-2010, 09:26 PM I got tired of buying tires for my 1800 every 5000 to 7000 miles. I had to find a better tire ---- I found the I get about 30000 miles from a 195 55 16 Hankook tire made for a sports car---- they work great ! and you can buy them from Pep Boys for about $90.00
Glazguy 02-17-2010, 09:38 PM I hope you meant $585 was the price to install including the tires. If not, you've got to find another dealership. I will only be getting a Wing in the spring but I have been paying $40 for the front and $55 for the rear for mounting, balancing and installation. Right now I'm riding a 2006 Stratoliner and have been getting my work done at a Honda/Yamaha dealership here in Massachusetts. Good luck with whatever tire you decide to go with. Unfortunately I have only been getting about 9,000 out of a set of tires so when I switch to the Wing there won't be any great dissappointment when it comes to tire wear.
ronzilla 02-17-2010, 09:48 PM ... HOWDY ... I'M REPLACING MY DUNLOP 404's WITH DUNLOP E-3 BIAS PLY ... HAPPY TRAILS ...
detdrbuzzard 02-18-2010, 05:30 AM i have E3 's on both wings. bridgestone tires seem to have gotten a lot better but i still won't buy them and if they are on a bike i buy they'll be the first thing to go
The E3's get my vote, my last (2) sets went over 20K on each set, ran Bridgestones years ago, did'nt care for them, (poor mileage).
Radarsdad 02-18-2010, 06:40 AM I'll continue to watch this thread as it seems the Dunlops are most rider's favorites... so far.
2003 GL1800 POLICE 02-18-2010, 08:21 AM check out www.rhinotire.com prices are good and super safe

i won't say dunlop's are my favorite but bridgstone is still on my " tires to avoid " list

Bridgestone should stick to making car tires. I had a Bridgestone (same company) SS350 motorcycle. Freaking little thing was a rocket.

That one will go over about as well as my line to her that the reason I need " cheaters " is because my eyes are worn out from looking at her radiant beauty all these years.
Carl334 02-20-2010, 04:02 PM I've priced Dunlop E-3s at local dealers here in mid Missouri, both less than $425 installed.

How far from Washington D.C. to mid Missouri ? Do you have a Motel - 6 there ?

Ouch!
That might have been just laying it on alittle to thick..........
Radarsdad 02-20-2010, 10:27 PM Dunlop offers a standard rear and a 70 series rear tire for the 1800, Is one better than the other?
knwe55 02-21-2010, 06:51 AM I like the Bridgestones the best. But E3 are good, The dealership I use installs for free if you buy from them,Tires run around 220.00 each
chopin114 02-21-2010, 07:12 AM I hear a term bantered about alot called " Darkside ". It seems to refer to non-motorcycle tires. It's not my cup of tea, but it seems to generate alot of controversy among the have and the have nots.
Ken Pollock 02-21-2010, 10:22 AM I have had Bridgestones on my 04 after running the Dunlops that came with it. Will always use the Bridgestones, they just ride better.
tdowney 02-28-2010, 09:08 AM I also need new tires on my 2006. Any comments about the metzlers??
Peppyone1955 02-28-2010, 09:53 AM Choppin have you checked out Shenandoah Honda in Winchester Va. which is 20 to 30 miles away from you. They will price match any other companys prices. Find the cheapest price online for tires or any parts & they will match it. I have done this many times by printing a copy of the price I could get it for online & taking it in for proof & they always matched it. Closer than Missouri !

Came this close to buying a bike from Shenandoah Honda. I liked the sales dept. fellow, but no experience with the service side. I always stop by there on my rides to Winchester and beyond, now I have a reason to stop for more than than just a look. ~ Lee 1956.

Chopin114 COME TO THE DARK SIDE-- I am now running the hankook 195 55 16 on my wing --- they are great -- I use to averaging about 6500 miles out of a rear tire -- now Im getting about 30,000. They do not affect my performance at all and I get better gas milage-- (only about 3/4 of a MPG --but its better than nothing) they fit perfectly and have more tread
they are cheaper than motorcycles tires wear longer and have a better warrenty ( $80.00 at Pep Boys)
