After 3 weeks or constant rain I finally pulled my head out of the oven and rode. Cold morning about 35 degrees but sunny . Rode about 225 mi. Listened to my new playlist , Listening to talking heads at 75 mph felt good. When's groundhog day and is that damned thing gonna see his shadow?:D

Hey Robdog, Groundhog Day is always Feb 2nd & Head would tell you that none of us Pa people pay attention to the rodent all it is is an excuse to party.:D I can't believe that out here in Pennsyltucky that someone hasn't shot the thing yet.

It won't be long for us Northern guys now we're halfway to riding again.

53 deg. on the display panel yesterday. Hopped out of the work van and hopped on the bike. Nothing special, but I slept better.

About 1967 I was in York PA, My cousin and I were shooting ground hogs. 2 of them were cooked by my aunts neighbor, like you would cook a pot roast. Strange to say that it was very good eating?!
PETA is wanting to get people to leave Punxsutawney Phil alone because they are interrupting his normal hibernation and use an animatronic version???????????
Around here PETA stands for People Eating Tasty Animals!

I wasn't leading ".45/70.. " So no need to follow. Blaze your own trail , lead your own route. If sometimes , perchance, a post strikes a member in a peculiar way, pay no mind and continue on......

I definitely need a ride. I'm about ready to say "Screw the rain" and just dress warm, put on the rain suit and get in some miles. Maybe if there's no ice on the road this weekend.....

Nope, checked the weather on line:
17.6 °F
Overcast
Windchill: 7 °F
Humidity: 26%
Dew Point: -11 °F
Wind: 8.1 mph from the WSW
Wind Gust: 19.7 mph
Pressure: 29.77 in (Steady)
Visibility: 7.0 miles

Went back to bed, I'll come out of hibernation in March maybe April, wondering where that Al G's global warming is taking place, it's definitely not here in Michigan.

Channel 1 is considered the Goldwing Channel and the channel that group rides use to keep the group together and safe. Non-CBer's are put in the middle of the group.

That’s why I love living down here in the sweat-belt, we can ride year round. It does get a little refreshingly brisk now and then and if there is going to be rain I stay in the cage so I guess age is catching up to me. The Gold Wing is still new to me and it is a lot more comfortable in the cold. A couple weeks ago it rained for many days straight. The first sunny day I jumped on the Yamaha and went for a 70 mile run. Had to stop 3 times to warm up but it was a good day. The next day, with about the same temps (low 30’s) I took the Wing out and went for a 100 mile loop and only put my feet down 3 times for traffic lights. A really good day.

I’m originally from Michigan and been down here long enough that people no longer ask me “where you frum?” I started out as a Damn Yankee (a Yankee just visits the south and then he gets his rear back north, I stayed and got a job) as it was explained to me by a guy from Georgia whom I worked with, while he was encouraging me to move back north. Then, a number of years later, I graduated to a G__ Damn Yankee by marrying one of their women.

Laughed my rear off this morning about the picture from 45/70. My Dad slew a lot of those critters to keep them out of his garden near Howell. Hoping for an early spring for you up in the great white north, and even the wet west.

Well that rodent saw his shadow so more winter ahead. Just wanted to say how nice everyone on this forum is . I am in another advice type forum and the "eagles" of the forum with 100k plus posts are just mean and don't ever give any specific advice just thier 2c worth. :D

Robdog I'm actually thinking of hiring Wile E. Coyote or Henry Hawk to put a hit on the no good son of #%*)@ so we can ride quicker next year. Do you want in on it?

I couldn't agree more. I've joined several boards over the years & stop being active on most because of exactly what you said. Here though we all get along well . This is by far the most respectful bunch of people I've encountered. Kuddos to all & Let's keep it that way.

I think I just got a tear in my eye.:D

Going for a ride today around middle Mississippi. It'll be a little refreshingly brisk with the temps in the low 40's. But we have to get one of the guys in our local GWRRA group away from the house. His wife has a surprise birthday party going and we must distract him for the afternoon. It is a tough job but at least they got a couple of the best to take care of it.

Well i'm finally sick of this groundhog thing , yeah the forecast is rain for as far as i can see. So I went to the local gun shop and told them my tale of woe . They said this one would fix any groundhog problem.:D

Just how big are the ground hogs in California? I know you have some awfully big liberals but are the 4 legged varmits that big??

Well I shouldn't go to the gun shop and say "whats the biggest ya got". But you'll have to forgive me im a old navy guy and always thought why use my 45 when a tomahawk missle is available. The old get a bigger hammer theory. But the weather is still real bad especially on the eastern side of the country.I feel for you guys . Hopefully it makes for a nice spring.

I understand the bigger hammer principle, I flew the AC130 gunships over the Ho Chi Min a few years ago. Now I just use a Sharps 45/70 with 532gr for deer and a Walther PPk/s 380 on ground hogs.

I prefer a Sidewinder Missile when their in flight. If they are still, a sling shot will do.
Let me see if I have the picture right here. Your dog (Ranger ) ran away and you uncovered the bike to go look for him. In the excitement, you for got that you had two foot drifts, so there you are just looking at that bike and wishing !!

Don't spoil the plot, Phil. As we will later discover, Ranger is equipped with this : http://www.lcsupply.com/Product/Electronic-Dog-Collars/Remote-Shock-Collars/Field-Pro-Ranger.html

45/70 . i've seen a ac130 gunship , awesome weaponry. Had my hands on some big stuff in my day also. Have you dialed in your sharps . had a friend had one and with blackpowder it could shoot about a 3 inch group at 100 yds . I shot with fcsa in ca until the laws changed but did a 4in group at 1000yds once.

45/70fan
02-12-2010, 06:18 AM
At one time I could shoot itty bitty groups but anymore I'm lucky to be able to shoot. I was referred to as dead eye many moons ago but now I'm just shakey if that tells ya anything. The guns are certainly just as accurate today as they were back then but I'm not.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a149/Fisherman_48768/STANDINGWITHLESBAUSKAANDTARGETISHOT.jpg

I still love the sport but now I do more coaching and teaching different aspects from building the gun and reloading to target shooting techniques.

Guess that is why I enjoy the two wheelers going down the road and being able to miss enough obstacles that we can reach the light at the end of the tunnel.
