I'll agree with that! We were in Hot Springs Ark. last April, with our Corvette group. There are some pretty sweet roads up in the mountains there, and not a lot of traffic to deal with, either. ;)

I'm in Nashville. Within a few hours you can ride everything from flat country to the Smokies (expecially, "The Dragon"). I love all the backroads and twisties in this part of the country. Sometimes I forget there is life off the GL. Bummer...

HI im a new rider. just picked up a 84 intrestate my first street bike so i dont have any thing to compare it to...... however i test rode a sportster which im sure is an ok bike,,,, but i am sticking with the goldwing. i had some problems with the brakes and inop fan , the fan hapen to be two things,, the thermal switch and no power due to the inline fuse holder bad. wow... took forever to find the fuse. it was along the left side under the seat. the back brake and right front brake would start to hang and really bind us after a short time riding. i rebuilt the master cylinder all seems well now... the temp gage wasnt working either it was the gage itself. hardest part of that was getting to it......... lots to remove to get to that instrument cluster..... just had to get the temp. pointer moving freely.. a ever so slight tweak.... get it all back together works fine. but noticed today the tach is sticking a bit...... its a high mileage bike with 97500 on her. it puff a lil smoke (oil) when i just start up. not all the time but occasionally. it always immediatly stops . i also get a ticking from the right every now and then a friend told me it from an exhaust leak. has anyone heard of this???

is there any additive that may work and what oil is reccomended for high mileage wings? wow so much to learn....:) all take care!!! and if ever in the north charleston area give a shout !!

Mike,
First off Welcome to The Wild World of GW. I have a 87 Interstate with 12,413 miles on her. If you have any questions the guy I go to is capnfred57 here. Fred is really good on the older wings. He has a 84 aspy. Also Join GWRRA for you can find alot of good info on the member boards there for Our Classic Wings.

Again, Welcome to the forum and hope to see you on the road. Till then, Ride Safe and Be Seen!

I am in Pensacola, Florida and I will be headed to Deals Gap to stay at the motorcycle lodge at the foot of the dragon in a couple of months. I am retired but I teach a couple of classes at the community college so I have to wait until spring break to take any kind of a trip. I just bought a new 2010 wing with Nav (Option #2) and can't wait to break it in on the dragon.

Greetings from middle Mississippi. Good riding around here on any state highway with three numbers; like 481 through the Bienville National Forest. Also any road colored gray on the map; like the Old Port Gibson Road from Raymond to Port Gibson. Not twisties like in the mountains but nice sweeping curves and rolling country. I lived on the coast for 22 years and just moved up here last year. Member GWRRA MS-F.

Thanks for the tip Dacusville5, that Highway 276 at Caesars Head State Park, SC will be on my list to visit next fall. This spring I plan a long weekend on the roads around Jackson, TN.

Hello from central Mississippi.
I just purchased a '87 Interstate from a fellow in Gluckstadt, MS. I'm looking forward to spending a couple of weekends traveling the Natchez Trace Parkway.
I hope y'all can come down this way. The coast is doing a fine job of recovering from the devastation of Katrina. I think you'll like it.

Hello Wingrider86, I live just east of Gluckstadt. Where do you live? The Trace is a nice ride anywhere along it, but north of Tupelo is best. If you are on the coast HWy 43 or 15 are good rides. The GWRRA groups are good to ride with. We are in MS-F in Jackson and it is a nice group that is always riding somewhere.

Hello Crownfire,

I live in in Brandon. I'm thinking of rejoining the GWRRA. I let my membership lapse when I sold my '86 Aspencade several years ago. Now that I'm back on a bike, we'll see. The $45.00 a year membership is a hard pill to swallow. You can always get a hold of me at wingrider86 at yahoo.com.

The MS-F Spring Fling is tomorrow, Saturday, March 20, from 11:00 to 4:00 at the Coolwater Catering (formerly the Western Sizzlin) on Lake Harbour Dr. just east of Old Canton Rd., Ridgeland. Come by and see us. We are having drawings and games along with a poker run (although a short one). I'll be stationed on the Trace at the old trace pullout during the poker run. I'll be the only one on a Yamaha Stratoliner as the Wing is still being repaired.

Hey, everyone. Just took my second ride since I got my wing. Just a short ride from Birmingham, AL to Decatur to eat at Big Bob's Gibson's. Great BBQ!

BTW, if anyone needs rain at their house, let me know and I'll ride there. I seem to attract rain where ever I ride.

So how far south are we talking about here guys as I think I live as far south as you will ever get as I live in OZ where you can ride all year round and never have to worry about it snowing on you in the winter time unless you are into riding on black ice as the nearest snow fields are about 6 hours ride from Sydney where I live.

We normally start our rides north from Ellijay, Ga., a little over an hours ride south of the north Georgia border. Day trips can be made to the Fontans Dam (Hellbender), Deals Gap (Tail of the Dragon) and the Cherohalle Skyway. Don't miss the museum at the start of the Cherohalle on the TN side.

Other rides in the Smokies are Maggie Valley and Cherokee, with a Harah's Casino. In Georgia, Helen, Ga is a must. A small town that resembles a Bavarian Village. Very pituresque.

Further north is the SkyLine Drive and of course the Blue Ridge. My next ride will be the entire Blue Ridge in the Spring of 2011.

Happy Holidays All,

Are there any riders in the Lafayette and New Iberia LA. area? We go there every year for a couple months (Sept & Oct) to see the grand kids. That leaves me a lot of time to ride but would rather ride with some others. Riding solo is fine but locals know the area and some of the best places to visit and roads.

Roads in Lafayette are a little short on adventure....But you have to go to Prejeans Restaurant in Lafayette. Best place I have ever eaten.

The SOUTH is where its at. Virginia mountains are beautiful to ride through. Florida leaves a lot to be desired except for the fact that winter here in south west Fl never gets too cold to ride the flat swampy nothing wonderful to see roads with very few twisties to enjoy.
