I have a 87 Goldwing Aspencade 1200. I just recently purchased it and have ridden about 400 miles. The bike had 27450 miles on it when I bought it and I have gone through 2 quarts of oil in it. Just wondering if this is unusual?

Yes, if your numbers are right, the oil consumption isn't right. I'm sure you can see the oil, either laying on the ground or as blue smoke coming out of your pipes.

My 85 was the same way........every 3,000 miles the oil was changed and no oil usage in between. Goldwing are not known for Oil comsumption or leaks that I am aware of. Your oil has to be going somewhere or leaking somewhere. I'd check it out or have it checked out.

I've been riding wings since '93 and never had to add oil to any of them. Your oil consumption is way out of line!

Start fresh, change the oil and filter, and keep an eye on it. Most Gold Wings will not use any oil but every now and then one will use a little but nothing like you posted. If it is using that much it must be going somewhere. Either on the ground or out the tail pipes.

How much Oil do you use?
To answer your question, I use 4 quarts every 5,000 miles and a filter.

That doesn't sound at all right. Measure carefully after an oil change and use the recommended oil. If you still lose 2 qt in 400 mile (and there is no puddle under) figure on an engine overhaul.
