The 10 Most Reliable Motorcycle Companies

Quote:
Here at Motorcycle.com we get to ride all of the newest, latest, and greatest motorcycles on the planet. However, more often than not, our time with each bike spans the course of weeks, maybe months (but definitely not years), as new bikes are constantly flowing through our proverbial garages, waiting to get tested. This means we have reviews of almost every motorcycle on the market, but it also means that we lack firsthand experience learning about long-term durability and maintenance. So, when our readers ask about the reliability of a certain make or model, it’s a difficult question to answer, as reliability testing requires ownership for several years – something we simply aren’t in a position to provide.

Thankfully, the folks at Consumer Reports have compiled a motorcycle reliability study, gathering information from more than 11,000 riders, sharing their experiences on more than 12,000 motorcycles purchased new between 2008 and 2014. With this data, CR adjusted for mileage ridden over a 12-month span and estimated failure rates. Like golf, the lower the number (or percentage, in this case), the better the score. CR’s language in the link above is vague, using words like “trouble prone” and not defining what constitutes a failure. Nonetheless, the results are still relevant. Here they are, from worst to best.

Like most companies, anyone can make a good deal (which is why sales dept have high rankings normally)

But when it comes to service......

So far with my Kawasaki I've been very happy. I haven't had to deal yet with my Honda dealer, but there have been several red flags about where their service might be at. They are a new dealer (about a month) so I'll give them a chance but honestly, they are every bit of 30 miles away. For general service (for me who can do my own) its likely not worth it. And I hope I don't have any major reasons to find out.

My HD....as the survey said....high customer satisfaction ratings but mid-reliability. I personally never had a problem with my HD's but I went round and round several times dealing with the service manager. He always talked down to me or treated me like an idiot. But I already know his impression of me.....some yuppy entering midlife who decided to buy a Harley. It wasn't until I called him on talking down to me and displayed my knowledge of motorcycles was far greater than he assumed. (Thats what I found offensive from him....I've been riding for 30 years)

Wasn't the last time I bought a Harley.....but it was the last time my Harley saw the inside of their shop.

2017 Goldwing Audio Comfort - "Bruiser"
2017 Kawasaki Ninja 1000ABS - "Damien"
2016 Kaw KLR560 - "Dusty"
2009 HD Ultra Classic - "Gem"
I'm about the ride...not the brand.
